MAX STEEL COMIC BOOK.

A RARE EXCLUSIVE PROMOTIONAL ITEM FROM MATTEL!

THIS WAS THE ONLY MAX STEEL COMIC BOOK PRODUCED!
When the first Max Steel toys were released in 1999, Mattel distributed a free 12 page comic titled "Take it to the Max" to introduce the character to children. The English version was distributed mostly in America and United Kingdom

The comic consists mostly of two different briefing presentations which are supposed to happen at the same time in DREAD and N-Tek headquarters respectively, in which each CEO explains Max's abilities, powers and capacities from their opposite points of view. While Jefferson Smith presents Max as a great tool to counter terrorism, John Dread considers Max as a Major threat. In the background, while hearing Jefferson's presentation, Josh remembers the accident which transformed him into Max Steel and adds complementary information about his personal life not mentioned by Jefferson or Dread in the briefings. Laura Chen also makes her first public presentation in the comic.

In the last pages, the comic also contains biographies of all main characters: Max, Jefferson, Dread, Psycho, Rachel and 'Berto.
Most of the facts mentioned in the comic are present and developed in the TV series first season.

This is the extremely rare first issue, published in 1999 by MATTEL.

SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE'S CREATION MEETS ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON'S.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Writer Steven Philip Jones came up with an interesting premise: What would happen if the world’s most infamous dual personality came face-to-face (as it were) with the world’s most famous detective? Richard Enfield’s chance observance of a bit of cruelty on the part of Mr. Hyde starts off the adventure. Hyde, unfeelingly, had run down a small child, and under the threat of mob action was forced to make reparations. Enfield noticed that the payment to the girl was made partly in gold, and partly in the form of a check from Dr. Henry Jekyll. Thinking it most strange that such a respected man as Dr. Jekyll would hand over this large sum to a brute like Hyde, Enfield asked Sherlock Holmes to look into the matter. What follows is a fine tale of detection which deftly weaves together the tale of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde with an old-fashioned Sherlock Holmes mystery.

THIS VERSION IS LONG OUT OF PRINT.

"The Tempest", the companion piece to "A Midsummer Night's Dream", from the third collection, Dream Country. "The Tempest" is more reflective than "A Midsummer Night's Dream", and features less of the original play, though it echoes it cleverly in several ways and sequences. It is principally about Gaiman's Morpheus and his issues with himself and his place in things. Here we see in detail the Morpheus only briefly fleshed in former issues - the vulnerable, emotional, confused Dream King. Gaiman uses "The Tempest", a play fundamentally about change, endings, and new beginnings, to finish the series.

The Tempest. Illustrated by fantasy master Charles Vess, whose art is full of emotion and the sights of the period. This, the story of the world's greatest writer's last work, which is itself, the story of a powerful magician who breaks his books and leaves his island. Will Shakespeare himself, is faced with the weight of old age, his distance from his wife, and his daughter being courted by a boy he does not approve of. He deals with these by getting drunk with Ben Jonson, and pouring his heart and soul into The Tempest. Finished the play, Will accompanies the King of Dreams to his castle for a drink, and to ask him why this was the play that Morpheus wanted written about him. Because Morpheus, unlike some of his family and unlike Prospero, the hero of The Tempest, will never leave his island. Although he is the Prince of Stories, he will never have one written about him. And, I guess, that's where we came in, fellow readers.

Asked why he likes comics more than other forms of storytelling Gaiman said “One of the joys of comics has always been the knowledge that it was, in many ways, untouched ground. It was virgin territory. When I was working on Sandman, I felt a lot of the time that I was actually picking up a machete and heading out into the jungle. I got to write in places and do things that nobody had ever done before. When I’m writing novels I’m painfully aware that I’m working in a medium that people have been writing absolutely jaw-droppingly brilliant things for, you know, three-four thousand years now. You know, you can go back. We have things like The Golden Ass. And you go, well, I don’t know that I’m as good as that and that’s two and a half thousand years old. But with comics I felt like — I can do stuff nobody has ever done. I can do stuff nobody has ever thought of. And I could and it was enormously fun.”

inspirational stories of paying tribute to world's least-heralded heroes, peacemakers. This beautifully illustrated, special anthology tells more uplifting true and fictional stories of everyday people choosing to bring peace to their part of the world by fighting aggression with information and non-violent resistance.

anthology miniseries featuring stories about peace.

With perhaps a slight degree of optimism, the back cover describes the series like this: "On April 11, 2003 grief turns to hope and resolve when Marvel and its international creative community pay tribute to the world's least-heralded heroes: peacemakers. The 411 anthology tells true and fictional stories of people choosing to fight aggression with information and nonviolent resistance."

411 is about peacemakers: people who make sacrifices in the name of humanity. These are people willing to die to keep all of us on all sides alive, writes Bill Jemas, President and COO of Marvel Enterprises. Marvel sought out contributors from different countries and diverse backgrounds to present what Jemas describes as a tribute to peacemakers, to people who turn the other cheek in the face of violence people who refuse to lose sight of the fact that their enemies are part of their own community.

A congresswoman struggles between being reelected and voting her conscience on a war resolution.

The lives of a Baha’i boy named Hassan and a Palestinian boy named Nazir intersect with deadly results.

A writer praises the moment when his words capture the intricacies of the dance of life.

There are no super-heroes in this three-issue limited series, just everyday heroes playing their parts in a post-9/11 world. The hype for 411 – which grew out of an e-mail exchange between Joe Quesada (Daredevil) and Mark Millar (The Ultimates) – indicated that the series celebrates peacekeepers, those who stand up for peace in spite of the odds against them. There are some great stories here, given life by beautiful artwork.
