Takes place thousands of years after the events of First Lensman. Lensman Kimball Kinnison travels to Arisia for advanced training in the use of the "Lens", a pseudo-life device which grants its user telepathic powers. Kimball uses this training with great success against the Boskonian pirates –only to find out that the pirates are a front for an enemy of far greater scope.
Situated out at the furthest reaches of the galactic rim is the lush, green planet called Mqueie—home to a retired space soldier and his son, Kim, who is now turned eighteen and is ready to leave for the stars. But on the eve of his departure, a war-battered starship appears out of warp space and threatens to crash down upon the peaceful planet. As the young are apt to do, Kim makes a bold and rash plan—to take his small flyer and attempt entry to gain control of the falling ship, thus averting catastrophe. Making it on board, Kim discovers an injured Lensman at the helm.
Just what is the mysterious Lens that grants awesome powers to a select few? Kim’s incredible odyssey is about to begin…
