Robotech II: The Sentinels was originally going to be a 65 episode sequel to the original Robotech TV series, co-produced by Harmony Gold and Tatsunoko Productions. Unfortunately, due to a number of factors it was never completed.

In late 1988, Eternity brought out this new edition of the Robotech saga, set ten years after the conclusion of the Macross Saga.
Earth sent SDF-3 to Tirol to negotiate peace with the Robotech Masters before another Robotech War could erupt. They arrived to find another war already in progress with the Invid. Rick Hunter and his valiant crew saved Tirol but SDF-3 was damaged to the point she could not leave orbit for five years.
There they met a band of freedom fighters from different worlds calling themselves the Sentinels. Rick and his wife Lisa along with a few members of the Robotech Expeditionary Force helped to liberate one of the Sentinels’ home planets, Karbarra. But while looking for life on Praxis, they once more encountered the deadly Invid menace.

It's the year 2025. On Earth, the Army of the Southern Cross has been handed the task of keeping the planet safe from any new threat from space. Rick Hunter, hero of the first series, is about to marry Lisa Hayes, admiral and captain of the new SDF-3 space fortress. This ship is being sent to the Robotech Masters’ home planet on a diplomatic mission. In actuality, the ship is loaded with the most-advanced Mecha technology available—just in case the diplomatic mission doesn’t work out.
But unknown to all, the Robotech Masters’ home planet was under siege by Invid shock troopers. Within hours the world was all but destroyed, and the last scientists fled to underground refuges. Unless a miracle happens, they, and their knowledge of Protoculture technology, will fall into the hands of these dread alien invaders.

In 1988, Carl Macek collected much of the unused designs from Robotech II: The Sentinels into Robotech Art 3: The Sentinels, which also included his story outline for the rest of the unfinished series, with an explanation behind its cancellation.

Robotech art books are a series of publications made up of the artwork, designs, and sometimes the production background of the Robotech television series and its spinoffs.
This aborted American-produced series would have followed the continuing adventures of Rick and Lisa Hunter and the Robotech Expedition during the events of The Robotech Masters and The New Generation. The feature-length pilot is comprised of the first three (and only) episodes that were produced. Being a sequel/spinoff to the combined series, The Sentinels featured characters from all three Robotech sagas and introduced the SDF-3 along with an overview of their new mission. The series was planned to have total of 65 episodes.
