Michael Moorcock’s albino warrior has proved an enduring fantasy-fiction character, and even diluted by adaptation it’s easy to see why. He’s a striking and unique figure, with the weakness that he’s beset by illness and initially sustained only by a mixture of magic and drugs. The combination of frailty and regal poise is exceptionally illustrated It might be assumed that Thomas carries baggage with him from years of handling a diametrically opposed fantasy character, Conan, but his scripts here are faithful and dramatic, conveying Elric’s questioning and tormented nature.

A high fantasy character, Elric is a tall albino prince who possesses (or is possessed by) the rune-carved black sword Stormbringer which gives him strength, but at a price. He exists in a world where the eternal struggle between the forces of law and chaos leads to conflict and magical situations. This particular story is about his quest for the Dead Gods book, a powerful source of mystical knowledge.

On the run from the evil Dark Empire of Granbretan, young duke Dorian Hawkmoon and his trusty companion Oladahn take refuge in the beautiful, empty city of Soryandum, finding its tranquillity too appealing to resist.

But when agents of the empire catch up with them, the only way to save themselves is by doing a favor for the city’s ghostly inhabitants, who can’t fight the empire’s plans to raze their home and build an air combat center. Problem is, that little favor might get the duo killed as well, and in a much nastier way than the simple execution the empire has waiting for them.

Dorian Hawkmoon is another aspect of Michael Moorcock’s Eternal Champion character, a single hero destined to decide the fate of his world. This world is an alternate Britain whose expansionist policies are fueled by darkness and degredation, and empowered by sorcery in chivalrous times. Hawkmoon is sent to infiltrate the one European principality honorably resisting Granbretan, his loyalty seemingly insured by the implantation of a jewel on his forehead. Should betrayal be suspected, the jewel will kill him.

This is the RARE 1988 published version of Michael Moorcock's HAWKMOON, and was never sold in any mass market retail outlets. It was only available to purchase through comic book specialty shops.

Synopsis:
The graphic adaptation of the saga of Michael Moorcook's famous sword-and-sorcery hero - Elric of Melnibone .

Fleeing from pursuers, Elric of Melniboné at last came to the sea, his horse having run until its heart had burst. With nowhere else to run, Elric went to sleep on the shore while he awaited his fate. When he awoke, however, a great ship appeared in the mists and its crew bade him come aboard.

The ship’s arrival was more than fortuitous, however—it had arrived especially for him. Elric was the last of the Four which the ship was to carry to their ultimate destination. The Four were Prince Corum, Ereköse, Hawkmoon, and Elric—four incarnations of the Warrior Eternal. These four now sailed on strange seas that took them between worlds and times. Their journey was to take them to a land native to these parts, where they must take arms against a brother and sister called Agak and Gagak. These two, if not stopped, would shape the very fabric of reality to their purposes. Even gods could not stand against them, thus it was up to the Four!
