This new Ghost Rider is very different from any of his predecessors. He was once Kenshiro Cochrane, a member of the Hotwire Martyrs. Cochrane had just stolen a large quantity of hot information with a major dollar value. Before they could cash in their chips, as it were, a group of thugs called the Artificial Kidz had come after them. Cochrane had eluded them the longest, but a razor wire strung across his motorcycle’s path spelled his doom.
Before the Kidz could claim the data, Cochrane sent his mind into the computer network, intending to trigger enough feedback to kill his body. Instead, his consciousness fell into a realm called the Ghostworks, wherein a class of intellects more mathematical than material offered to remake him. He was placed in the body of a warbot fashioned after an old hero and charged with fighting the “viruses” of greed and corruption in society. Thus was born Ghost Rider 2099, a new instrument of vengeance.

Speed Demon was one of twelve titles DC and Marvel published jointly under the Amalgam masthead. Early in 1996 the two companies united to produce a four-issue Marvel Versus DC/DC Versus Marvel series in which their characters encountered and were forced to fight each other. Between the third and final issue the two universes merged, resulting in character fusions heretofore unimagined.
The source material for Speed Demon is primarily The Demon and The Flash, with elements of Ghost Rider and The Spectre added. Blaze Allen allowed himself to become the human host for a demon named Etrigan in order to rescue the soul of his wife Iris from the realm of the Night Spectre. His nephew, Wally West, follows a similar path and becomes a motorcycle-riding Speed Demon à la Johnny Blaze.

These stories reveals much into the story of Blackheart, one of the main villains from the Ghost Rider movie. The story tells of how Blackheart seeks the help of Ghost Rider, Wolverine, and Punisher to destroy the lord of hell, Mephisto, so he can reign supreme and create a new hell. Of course, you can imagine what their response is. Read this story about an unlikely team-up to save the innocent and stop an insane demon from creating his own hell.
One of the best things to come out of Marvel Comics in the modern era. It is a morality play- and a very good one.
The action takes place in Christ's Crown, a sleepy midwestern town. It is here that Blackheart, son of Mephisto, heir to the throne of hell is reborn on our plane. It is also here that he decides to both depose, and surpass, his father. His strategy is to tempt and corrupt the new breed of hero- those that walk the razor's edge between Light and Darkness in the service of justice.
To do this he summons Ghost Rider, Wolverine, and Punisher to town. He does this with notes that promise them secret information on what they desire most. Unfortunately, for him, he has misjudged the men that he has summoned. When they all automatically reject his offer of unlimited power in the service of Darkness, Blackheart then resorts to corrupting the entire town to use against them. Here he makes one fatal mistake when abducts the one innocent, uncorrupted soul in town- and spills her blood while doing so. The heroes fight their way into the heart of Hell itself to rescue the little girl....
As Ghost Rider states in the story: It doesn't matter if there is an edge, or if we occasinally cross it. As long as the innocent are protected, our cause is just.
