MAXX GEN 13 #1 COMIC BOOK MTV LIQUID TELEVISION IMAGE

THE MAXX/GEN 13 #1 COMIC BOOK.

The first appearance of MTV LIQUID TELEVISION's The Maxx was withing the pages of a comic book. The Maxx introduced innovative animation for a grown up audience along with The Head and Aeon Flux.

This is the extremely rare first issue, published by IMAGE COMICS.

Two of Image Comics most popular characters team up in this crossover issue. Mr. Gone is the villain as the members of Gen13 accidentally end up in the Maxx’s dreamland known as the Outback. When they are attacked by the Isz (a collection of creatures that look like melons with teeth), Maxx shows up to defend the young heroes. Ultimately, we discover that Mr. Gone is trying to destroy the outback and Gen13 is charged with the task of keeping everything in order and safe. Just about every major and minor character from both comic series is included in this story.

Huge. Powerful. Purple. It’s that last part about being purple (along with his general confusion about life) that separates the Maxx from the other musclebound mooks you’re likely to encounter. Of undetermined origin, the Maxx seems convinced that he’s some sort of super-hero, but other than getting beaten up by bad guys, he is not exactly sure of what he’s supposed to do. Frankly, he would much rather just go home and watch Cheers.

Created, written, and drawn by Sam Kieth. Kieth has created one of the more complex psychodramas to be seen in comic books. The real story revolves around a girl, Julie, who suffered abuse as a child and has grown into an incredibly shy adult. The Outback is her dreamland, where she appears as a jungle princess. The Maxx is actually just a homeless bum which Julie took in.

Created, written, and drawn by Sam Kieth, the Maxx comes off like a broad comedy. Upon further examination, however, it turns out that Kieth has created one of the more complex psychodramas to be seen in comic books. The real story revolves around a girl, Julie, who suffered abuse as a child and has grown into an incredibly shy adult. The Outback is her dreamland, where she appears as a jungle princess.
