A HUGE Hardcover Coffee Table book filled with lavish full color fantasy artwork.
RARE and OUT OF PRINT.
Product Description
Drawn from work created for books, comics, magazines, art galleries, advertisements, and the portfolios of some of the finest contemporary artists in the field. This lavishly illustrated book features the work of today's best-selling creators of fantasy and science fiction art. From the popular and well-regarded Spectrum annuals, over 100 artists are represented, chosen from a jury of award-winning professionals.
The increasing popularity of fantasy and science fiction themes in art is both celebrated and summarized in the sumptuous Spectrum series, which in eight years has become the premier venue for such art and an invaluable resource for art directors and illustrators. Spectrum 8 has a wider reach than any previous volume, featuring works from Germany, England, the Netherlands, Croatia, Canada, and France, in addition to those of American artists. The roster includes James Gurney (Dinotopia books), Anita Kunz (illustrator for Rolling Stone magazine), and many more. Jean Moebius Giraud is honored with an illustrated biography, while the Year in Review preface puts the entire field in focus. Includes 250 full-color illustrations.
Review
"A feast for the eye and the imagination"
Once again, the Spectrum series provides us with the best in contemporary and fantastic art, and it IS fantastic. Entries range from weird, to gory, to funny, to beautiful. The work ranges from cover illustrations, paintings, sculptures to some toys, action figures and graphic novel work.

Frank Frazetta BOOK 2
Edited by Betty Ballantine
* Language: English
RARE AND OUT OF PRINT!
Paperback Publisher: Peacock Press / Bantam Books (1977 2nd printing)
Frank Frazetta (born 1928) is an American fantasy and science fiction artist. He is one of the most emulated artists of these genres in the world. His cover for the sword-and-sorcery collection Conan the Adventurer by Robert E. Howard and L. Sprague de Camp (Lancer 1966) caused a sensation—numerous people bought the book for its cover alone. This interpretation of Conan essentially redefined the genre of Sword and Sorcery visually and had an enormous influence on succeeding generations of artists. From this point on, Frazetta's work was in great demand. During this period he also did covers for other paperback editions of classic Edgar Rice Burroughs books, such as those from the Tarzan and Barsoom (John Carter of Mars) series. He also did several pen and ink illustrations for many of these books.
* Featuring mostly colour reproductions of many of the famous paintings by probably the best fantasy artist ever.
* Included are many paintings which were featured on the covers of the WARREN horror magazines CREEPY, EERIE and VAMPIRELLA, and also on the paperback versions of the Robert E. Howard CONAN books.
Frazetta's work has graced album covers and book jackets. In this second volume you'll see some of his finest. His techniques for drawing your attention to primary and secondary points of interest in his works are done beautifully like a photographer uses light. His works are lush and sensual, celebrating the human anatomy like the ancient Greeks. The facial expressions of his subjects convey intensity, strength, and will. You can actually feel the energy jumping out at you.
