Now Comics’ Green Hornet series kicked off in 1991. The role of the Green Hornet has been handed down in the Reid Family since its inception with publisher Britt Reid assumed it in 1939 to battle gangsters. From there it went to Britt Reid II, then to Alan Reid in 1986 (killed on his first outing as the Hornet), and finally to Paul Reid in the present day.
Eschewing tradition, this Now Green Hornet series finds Paul increasingly comfortable in his role of pianist by day (breaking from the earlier era Britt Reids who were publishers) and crimefighter by night. The police, however, have grown embarrassed by the a vigilante who seems to keep showing them up. Using typical clear thinking, they’ve decided to devote the majority of their time and resources to catching the Hornet. As a result, the Green Hornet must now fight not just the criminals, but the police as well.
