The cover sports a unique die-cut cover in the shape of the S-symbol. revealing the metal chestplate of the new Superman underneath.

This comic book series, published in 1993, was an experiment by DC Comics to cast a Black Man in the role of Superman. At the time, it garnered a flurry of media attention, and the series sold out and became an instant collector's item.

The Death of Superman was a stunt that turned out to be DC's bestselling Superman comic ever. This comic sold out immediately upon it's release because of the media publicity surrounding Superman's death at the hands of the monster Doomsday from Krypton.

Superman's replacement in the comic book Superman The Man of Steel was a hammer weilding African American Hero who donned the red cape and suit of armor to battle for Truth, Justice and the American Way as the NEW SUPERMAN.

The character later spun off into his very own movie, STEEL, starring Shaquille O'Neal.
