Before Dracula became known as the glamorous star of Hollywood vampire movies, a silent film called “Nosferatu” (“Vampire”) painted a more tragic picture of the night creatures. This series, inspired by that film, features Sir William, a character doomed to an eternal life where he consistently craves human blood as well as needs it to stay alive. After ravaging a small town and killing countless humans, the Nosferatu is hunted by the men of the area. The climactic battle takes place between the Nosferatu and Orlock, another vampire. They both know that they cannot kill each other, so they decide to die together by driving a wooden stake through both hearts at the same time. Sadly, their legacy of blood was transmitted to a woman, Bronwyn Callan, who was turned into a vampire before they died.

Nosferatu is a vampire tale told in the classical manner. It began in the town of Bremen, Germany in 1838 when young Johann Hutter was sent on a special errand by his boss, real estate agent Knock. Herr Knock wanted Johann to travel to Transylvania to meet with a Count Orlac, who wanted to purchase a property in town. For Johann, it seemed the opportunity to earn a rich commission and advance his career, but Johann’s young bride Ellen feared she would never see him again.

Riding hard for several days, Johann finally arrived in Transylvania, where the locals lived in fear of Count Orlac. Still, Johann pressed on until he was face-to-face with Orlac himself, a strangely pale and misshapen man. Johann did not know it then, but he would soon discover that Orlac was a Nosferatu—a vampire. By meeting him, Johann had not only placed his own life in jeopardy, but had imperiled the entire town of Bremen—including Ellen!
