Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way (Hardcover)
by Bruce Campbell (Author)

1ST EDITION! COLLECTORS ITEM.

Book Description
What you're reading right now is known as the “flap copy.” This is where the 72,444 words of my latest book, Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way, are cooked down to fit in a 3 ½-by-9 ½-inch column. But how does one do that with a fictional story about a B movie actor’s disastrous attempt to finally star in a big-budget Hollywood movie? Do you tantalize readers with snappy zingers like the one in chapter six where Biff the Wonder Boy says, “You may be bred in ol’ Kentucky, but you're only a crumb up here”? Or do you reveal pivotal plot points like the one at the end of the book where the little girl on crutches points an accusing finger and shouts, “The killer is Mr. Potter!”
I have too much respect for you as an attention-deficient consumer to attempt such an obvious ruse. But let’s not play games here. You’ve already picked up the book, so you either:
A. Know who I am
B. Like the cool smoking jacket I’m wearing on the cover
C. Have just discovered that the bookstore restroom is out of toilet paper
Is this a relationship book? Well, if by “relationship book” you mean that the characters in it have relationships or are related to someone, then yes, absolutely. Will you learn how to pick up chicks? Good heavens, I can only hope so, though for best results in that department you should both read this book and be Brad Pitt.
Is it a sequel to my autobiography, If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor? Sadly, no, which made it much harder to write. According to my publisher, I haven't “done” enough since 2001 to warrant another memoir.
Is it an “autobiographical novel”? Yes. I'm the lead character in the story and I'm a real person and everything in the book actually happened, except for all the stuff that didn’t.
Mostly, the action revolves around my preparations for a pivotal role in director Mike Nichols’s A-list relationship film Let's Make Love!, starring Richard Gere, RenĂ©e Zellweger, and Christopher Plummer. This is the kind of break most actors can only dream of. But my Homeric attempt to break through the glass ceiling of B-grade genre fare is hampered by a vengeful studio executive and a production that becomes infected by something called the “B movie virus,” symptoms of which include excessive use of cheesy special effects, slapstick, and projectile vomiting.
When someone fingers me as the guy responsible for the virus, thus ruining my good standing in the entertainment industry (hey, I said it was fiction, okay?), I become a fugitive racing against the clock, an innocent patsy battling the shadowy forces of the studio system to clear my name, save my career, and destroy the Death Star. In a jaw-dropping twist worthy of Hitchcock (page 274), you'll gasp as I turn the tables on Hollywood and attempt to salvage my reputation in a town where you’re only as good as your last remake.
From a violent fistfight with a Buddhist to a life-altering stint in federal prison, this novel has it all. If you like John Grisham, Tom Clancy, or one too many run-on sentences, you'll absolutely love Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way. And if the 72,444 words are too time-consuming, there are lots and lots of cool graphics.
Regards,
Bruce “Don't Call Me Ash” Campbell
~
Bruce Campbell's first book, If Chins Could Kill, was a major sleeper hit
and became a New York Times and national bestseller. His immense energy and
sharp wit are in evidence again in Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way, a novel that will
have readers laughing out loud.

Satire and sharp one-liners are the engines powering low-budget movie hero Campbell's (If Chins Could Kill) first autobiographical novel, a funny, breezy, high-camp affair. After dispensing B-movie witticisms on romance and navigating love scenes, Sci-Fi channel schlock film actor "Bruce Campbell" is unexpectedly offered the A-list role of a "wise-cracking doorman" and "emotional lynchpin" in the new Mike Nichols romantic comedy Let's Make Love, starring Richard Gere and Renee Zellweger. After getting fully immersed in calamitous role research at the Waldorf-Astoria, Campbell postures (and annoys) his way through the first read-through with indifferent cast members, runs lines with a timid Gere, crassly advises Zellweger on how to accentuate her bust line, dishes ex-husbands with Liz Taylor and berates the film's director of photography, Oscar-winning Vilmos Zsigmond (whose name Campbell spells Sigmund). After a Secret Service ambush and more movie set mayhem, Campbell's A-List luck finally runs out. But not even a bumbling S.W.A.T. team can stop this determined day player from getting his due. Campbell knows of what he writes, and this endless barrage of extreme silliness obviously spoofs (and quite possibly mirrors) a frenzied acting career made up of equal parts exasperation and hilarity.

About the Author
Bruce Campbell is the ultimate "B" actor with an ever growing fanbase. His films in the "Evil Dead" series are cult favorites and his TV roles spark the same enthusiasm. He lives in Oregon.

If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor (HARDCOVER)
by Bruce Campbell (Author)

1ST EDITION! COLLECTORS ITEM.

Book Description
If Chins Could Kill is a delightfully irreverent, yet oddly touching epic of ambition and disappointment, fame and anonymity, and lots of fake blood. Told in Bruces wry, sarcastic voice, it is a Hollywood from the bleacher seats look at his experiences in film and TV and at his status as a cult horror and sci-fi movie god. This man with the face of a matinee idol and the heart of a Stooge first attracted what has grown into an enormous cult following as the star of Sam Raimis legendary Evil Dead trilogy of thriller-comedies. With tireless good humor and biting wit, Bruce acted, produced, and directed his way through a bakers dozen of B horror films and space operas before finally enjoying mainstream stardom on prime-time TV. Deeply earnest and fiercely funny, this book tells the story of an unlikely star who continues to lead a unique double life as cult movie icon and regular Joe.

About the Author
Bruce Campbell is the ultimate "B" actor with an ever growing fanbase. His films in the "Evil Dead" series are cult favorites and his TV roles spark the same enthusiasm. He lives in Oregon.

Though it offers few revelations about the details of Campbell's personal life, this entertaining and witty Hollywood memoir combines his life story with how-to guidance on making independent films and becoming a pop culture cult hero. Campbell began working in show business as a teenager, and in high school became friends with future director Sam Raimi, with whom he eventually co-produced the 1982 cult horror hit Evil Dead, in which Campbell starred. Despite his wry, modest sense of humor Campbell recognizes the peculiar place that Evil Dead holds in contemporary culture he sincerely conveys the enormous commitment and work that went into making and marketing the movie. By the time he describes the film's premiere, Campbell's sense of triumph is palpable: we share his excitement when the film makes back its money and by 2000 becomes number three on the all-time video charts after Lady and the Tramp and Titanic. When Campbell isn't starring in new films like Evil Dead II and Moontrap, he is desperately often hilariously looking for investors for his new projects. His subtitle aside, Campbell's career has gone mainstream: he has appeared in Homicide and Ellen, is a regular on Hercules and Xena, and has started directing as well. (June)Forecast: While a boon to film cultists and to Campbell's many fans, this book also has enough insights and smarts to appeal to readers with a serious interest in popular culture. A planned author tour and national print advertising will help it capitalize on Campbell's cult following.

This engaging memoir offers much more than the standard, glamorous "and then I did..." show business autobiography. In an informal and entertaining style, Campbell describes his suburban childhood in 1950s Detroit, his introduction to acting at 13 via a summer stock production of The King and I, his involvement in theatrics and an 8mm movie production in high school, a semester-long foray into higher education, and his adult career as an actor. A large portion of the work is devoted to his friendship and working relationship with director Sam Raimi, who was a high school classmate and whose successful film Evil Dead brought them both to public attention. The book offers insights into the world of independent filmmaking and the life of a "B" actor, but most importantly it succeeds as an evocative memoir that allows the reader to know Campbell.

Campbell, famed and in some quarters beloved star of Sam Raimi's ridiculously scary/scarily ridiculous horror flicks (Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Armies of Darkness) since their high-school days, has a rapier wit that he plies handily against the weird little world in which he toils. He notes, for example, how much thriller-comedies like Raimi's resemble such syndicated-TV sword-sandals-biceps-boobs-'n'-magic fests as Xena and Hercules, in both of which he just happens to have recurring roles. Exceptionally literate yet conversational, wide-ranging but never wandering, and copiously, gleefully illustrated, Campbell's self-life is, as he says, "not about an actor's 'meteoric' rise or 'tragic' fall" but is "dedicated to the players on the second string, the 'B' people," with whom he cheerfully identifies. Light reading it may be, but it contains much important lifestyle information, such as how to deal with a cracked block in a 1976 Opal Isuzu, and the merits of using a brush to paint a car with house paint. The true Hollywood and behind-the-scenes-with-Xena-and-Gaby stuff is just so much whipped cream on the sundae.

But the hunters are relentless as they stalk and terrorize their quarry, and soon Rex and his family realize that they can't run, and there's nowhere left to hide ... so now their only hope is to band together and take a stand against the demons-on-wheels, even if it's the last thing they do.

Huge Hardcover Coffee Table book with lavish photos and illustrations.

Product Description
From the late 1930s to the mid-1950s, DC Comics blazed a creative, innovative trail in popular culture, and the company has remained at the forefront of the comics industry ever since. In one milestone after another, DC Comics introduced the fantastic characters that became everyone's favorite super heroes: Superman, Batman and Robin, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern, and Shazam! This brilliantly illustrated volume features entirely new, large-format photography of the original comic books, showcasing the fabulous visual world of the DC comic-book heroes and artists.

Comics historian Les Daniels, graphic designer Chip Kidd, and photographer Geoff Spear have delved deep into the DC archives, to which they were granted unprecedented access, highlighting not only the classics that have become pop-culture icons but also lost gems like More Fun Comics and Comics Cavalcade. The 365 images, shot especially for this book, along with the impeccably researched text and informative introductory essays, ensure that this blast from the past will have a huge appeal for both comic-book devotees and newcomers. AUTHOR BIO: Les Daniels is the author of the official histories of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, as well as DC Comics: A Celebration of the World's Favorite Comic Book Heroes and Abrams' Marvel: Five Fabulous Decades of the World's Greatest Comics. Although old-style comic books may never be as big as they were between the late 1930s and mid ’50s, the continued popularity of their characters is evident by their frequent appearances in movies and in television. This boldly constructed retrospective is full of nostalgia and humor, and will entice old collectors and casual fans alike to flip through its pages again and again. The extreme close-ups of the selected panels force readers to examine every background detail, and the irregular cropping keeps the eye straining for as much information as possible. The accompanying authors’ comments hint at what is special about the art and enjoin readers to see merit even in the often goofy captions (when discussing a strip about femme fatales, for instance, the authors proclaim, "They don’t write dialogue like this anymore: ‘A strange person! Eclipse was her name, and Eclipse her nature!’ To which Blackhawk replies: ‘And finally she eclipsed—herself!’"). Striking cover and binding art, coupled with the volume’s unusual shape and heft, will attract attention, as will the back cover, which features ads for such staple comic book products as whoopee cushions, boomerangs and model airplanes. Printed on glossy black paper that is a wonderful contrast to the color-saturated panels, the text offers a mixture of information about the characters, historical tidbits on the comics and wry commentary on the artwork and plot points. The big heroes and heroines such as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are covered, as are their sidekicks and villains, but so are failed characters, short-lived ideas and the funny animal characters that were used as fillers. This coffee-table book is too much fun for readers to peruse just one page a day.

Full color artwork printed on high quality paper!

Jean Grey was originally not supposed to die! The ending of the story was a matter of intense controversy with the editorial staff. Claremont and Byrne originally wanted Jean to be depowered by Lilandra's alliance to prevent any recurrence of Dark Phoenix's havoc, so that they could bring Jean (and her evil Dark Phoenix alter ego) back for future stories. Their editor, Louise Simonson, agreed to this ending. But problems surfaced when then Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter objected, weeks before Uncanny X-Men #137 was published. After learning of the plot point, he expressed to Claremont and Byrne his feelings that such a light punishment was wholly disproportionate to the magnitude of her crime, which was essentially genocide. Shooter ordered the original ending scrapped and a new ending produced, which would have Jean pay the supreme penalty for her crimes.

Ultimately, it was decided by Byrne and Claremont to have Jean commit suicide after her Dark Phoenix persona resurfaces at the climax of the fight against the Imperial Guard. The original ending ultimately saw print in 1983 in a special edition reprint of Uncanny X-Men #137 called Phoenix: The Untold Story. Besides reprinting Byrne and Claremont's original version of Uncanny X-Men #137, it featured a transcript of a roundtable discussion between Claremont, Byrne, and Shooter discussing the story behind the original ending and why it was changed. The interview is also important for an exchange which shows how early Byrne had hatched plans to resurrect Jean.

A Very Important KEY ISSUE!

Neil Gaiman wrote the award-winning graphic novel series The Sandman, and with Terry Pratchett, the award-winning novel Good Omens. His first book for children, The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish, illustrated by Dave McKean, hasn't yet won any awards, but was one of Newsweek's Best Children's Books of 1997. Angels & Visitations, a small press story collection, was nominated for a World Fantasy Award and won the International Horror Critics Guild Award for Best Collection, despite not having any horror in it. Well, hardly any.Born in England, he now makes his home in America, in a big dark house of uncertain location where he grows exotic pumpkins and accumulates computers and cats. He is currently at work turning his first novel Neverwhere into a film for Jim Henson films.
Asked why he likes comics more than other forms of storytelling Gaiman said “One of the joys of comics has always been the knowledge that it was, in many ways, untouched ground. It was virgin territory. When I was working on Sandman, I felt a lot of the time that I was actually picking up a machete and heading out into the jungle. I got to write in places and do things that nobody had ever done before. When I’m writing novels I’m painfully aware that I’m working in a medium that people have been writing absolutely jaw-droppingly brilliant things for, you know, three-four thousand years now. You know, you can go back. We have things like The Golden Ass. And you go, well, I don’t know that I’m as good as that and that’s two and a half thousand years old. But with comics I felt like — I can do stuff nobody has ever done. I can do stuff nobody has ever thought of. And I could and it was enormously fun.”

Green Lantern: Mosaic takes place on the alien world of Oa. Oa was created by the Green Lantern Corps as an experiment—populated with humans, and placed under the care of Green Lantern John Stewart. It seems a strange decision, as Stewart is, without a doubt, a little bit mad. He hears voices, and sees things that others can not. Now he must not only rebuild his own psyche, but attempt to raise the perfect society as well.

The stories in this series range from slapstick to strangeness, with later issues tackling contemporary themes such as racism.

THE FLASH #1 Comic Book.

RARE AND OUT OF PRINT! THE FIRST ISSUE OF THE FLASH COMIC BOOK!

In 1987, DC launched its second modern Flash series with a new face behind the red mask. The contemporary Flash, Wally West (formerly Kid Flash), is more cynical and not quite as fast as his Flash mentor, Barry Allen. Wally has a top speed of 705 miles an hour, which he can sustain for only a couple of hours before collapsing from exhaustion. The old Flash, by comparison, could travel faster than the speed of light.

Despite the comparisons, the new Flash is determined to prove the super-running shoes fit. And in this new series, Wally proves that 705 mph is just as good as light-speed when it comes to being a hero.

Synopsis:
Wally West is torn away from his 20th birthday party when a hospital requests he transport a heart from New York to Seattle. Agreeing to do so in exchange for health insurance, Wally runs across the United States, running into Vandal Savage in Colorado. After this brief diversion, Wally delivers the heart and heads back home to New York. At home, Wally learns that he may have won the lottery, as he finds a heart in a box in his home, courtesy of Vandal Savage!

ASTROBOY

RARE VINTAGE COMIC BOOK. Published in the eighties!

First issue of the fantastic comic book series featuring Osama Tezuka's classic anime robot hero ASTROBOY!

Featuring lavish full color artwork printed on high quality paper.

All new stories for the North American market.

Astro-Boy, the robot kid with the heart of gold, was one of the first generation of Japanese anime characters to gain popularity in the United States, debuting (along with Speed Racer) in 1964. It is no exaggeration to say that Astro-Boy enjoys superstar status in the Japanese comic world, and was a natural to help lead the first wave of manga titles to see print in the U.S. in the late 1980s. Now Comics gives Astro-Boy a well-packaged showcase, with colorful, open, kid-friendly art and storytelling from writer Michael Dimpsey, and illustrators Ken Steacy and Rodney Dunn.

Astro-Boy inhabits a future world where robots are common, but treated as second-class citizens. Created as a child-surrogate by a slightly megalomaniacal mad scientist, Astro-Boy has the innocence of a little boy but the powers of a fighting machine.

MARVEL-OUS COMICS ON CITY HEROES

By ETHAN SACKS DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Monday, June 3th 2002, 1:80AM

Need to foil a megalomaniacal supervillain? Call Spider-Man.

Need to stop an evil mutant out to enslave the human race? Get hold of the X-Men.

Need to put out a raging fire or put down a crack-adled gunman holding hostages?

That's a job for real heroes.

Marvel Comics is betting there is plenty of room in the post-Sept. 11 superhero world for inspiring stories about New York's firefighters, police officers and EMS workers.

The comics' publisher will release "The Call of Duty: The Brotherhood," focusing on FDNY firefighters. It is the first of three six-issue miniseries that will focus on real-life New York City heroes.

"There's a real fever to see these kinds of people and heroes immortalized in our type of storytelling," said Joe Quesada, Marvel's editor in chief.

Quesada and his staff are trying to keep the story lines secret. However, "The Brotherhood" closely follows the exploits of several fictional firefighters as they respond to emergencies, both big and small, around the city.

But because the stories take place in superhero land, there are hints of the supernatural.

For example, "The Brotherhood" opens in the middle of a raging townhouse fire. One of the firefighters notices a little girl in the midst of the flames but mysteriously unaffected by them. When the firefighter tries to rescue her, she disappears.

Veteran comics writer Chuck Austen, 40, of California, wrote "The Brotherhood" script. He did extensive research on FDNY procedures and lore and spent time with Engine 228 in Brooklyn and one of its officers, Lt. Richard Smith, the father of a Marvel Comics editor.

From his association with Lt. Smith and his men, Austen got a clear sense of just how tight-knit a community firefighters have.

For his part, Smith, a 24-year veteran of the department, has no fear in the way Marvel might be potraying firefighters.

"The way they're treating [the subject] and the recognition they're giving the firefighters in New York City, I think it celebrates [the profession]," Smith said

"The Brotherhood," will be followed by two other series, one based on the NYPD, called "The Precinct," and one about EMS workers, called "The Wagon."

The three comics will lead into one ongoing series that focuses on a cop, a firefighter and a paramedic. Writer Chuck Austen said the comic will be like a cross between "NYPD Blue" and "The X-Files."

SAN DIEGO COMICON SPECIAL EDITION. SIGNED by three of the Artists!

RARE AND OUT OF PRINT
HARD TO FIND COLLECTOR'S ITEM!
THE CAPCOM CHARACTERS RETURN IN THIS ALL NEW FULL COLOR MANGA ANIME-STYLE COMIC BOOK SERIES!

Featuring fantastic full color artwork from UDON Studios printed on high quality paper.

UDON is premiering its very own Capcom Summer Special 2004, a special 32-page, full-color exclusive comic that marks the debut of Capcom's other properties. Get ready for the debut of the comic book versions of Darkstalkers and Rival Schools.

The fan-favorite comic returns with an introductory jumping-on point for new readers.

"Darkstalkers, with its classic cast of horror-themed characters including Morrigan and Felicia, has had a dedicated fan base for years, spawning anime OAVs, manga and countless other successful licensed products. Rival Schools, one of Capcom's most beloved 3-D fighting games, expands the Street Fighter universe with a massive cast of new and familiar faces in a tale that is equal parts kung-fu and comedic high school drama.

Much like the highly sought-after surprise hit Street Fighter #0 of 2003, [the Capcom Summer Special 2004] will contain three all-new original stories from the three respective Capcom titles: Street Fighter (featuring a Chun-Li story by Ken Siu-Chong, Arnold Tsang and Andrew Hou), Darkstalkers (featuring the origin of Morrigan by Ken Siu-Chong and Alvin Lee), and Rival Schools (featuring Street Fighter's Sakura and her friends Hinata and Natsu in a story by Erik Ko and Omar Dogan)."

The Street Fighter portion of the Special helps give some more depth to Chun-Li’s character. It takes place shortly after the death of her father and shows how she dealt with the situation. It will also feature the pretty kick-ass fight between Chun-Li and Birdie that fans should get a kick out of. The Darkstalkers and Rival Schools stories are prequel stories that will help set the stage for the ongoing series. The Darkstalkers story will detail the origin of Morrigan (something fans have never seen before) and the events in the Rival Schools story will help show how it connects to the Street Fighter Universe.

Besides being the second most recognizable (and fantasized-about) female fighting game character (next to Chun-Li), [Darkstalkers’] Morrigan is a succubus—a vampire-like creature that feeds on the souls of humans through seduction or, sometimes, through their dreams. In Darkstalkers, she is the heir to the throne of one of the noble houses of the Demon World, but has grown restless under the over-protective eye of her father and has taken to entering the human world to enjoy the thrill of the ‘hunt’. Basically, the human world is her playground. Since the setting is not in the real world, the characters are all "Darkstalkers"—supernatural beings such as vampires, werewolves and undead zombies. That allows for even crazier powers and over-the-top moves than SF since SF’s characters, as powerful as they may be, need to be at least somewhat more based in reality. They can fly, teleport, summon, transform, etc., making the characters really interesting in translating into a comic. the fighting environment is not confined to human to the ground and the damage caused by the characters moves are much greater. Darkstalkers has truly a great cast that ranges from the horrific to the down-right wacky: A zombie guitarist, a cat girl, a succubus, a vampire prince, a bee-woman, a Frankenstein-like monster, a werewolf, a sasquatch, a merman… I guarantee comic fans have never seen a cast of characters quite like this.

Rival Schools, as fans would know, is a spin-off of Street Fighter. It's Capcom trying to push their fighting game to the next level with 3-D graphics instead of 2-D sprites. It's supposedly set in the same universe as SF, but is loosely connected. Only Sakura is in the game. But that's the game. RS has its own unique story that’s somewhat independent of the Street Fighter story. Sakura will switch to RS when RS starts. Sakura is basically a young high school girl who’s become obsessed with being like Ryu—she’s his self-professed #1 fan and pupil. She wears a headband like him and is always trying to imitate his techniques. Sometimes she really gets on his nerves, but deep down he has a soft spot for her and begins to look at her like a little sister. She’s actually one of my personal favorite characters to write since she helps balance Ryu’s one-minded, serious quest to perfect his training with a little light-heartedness. RS kicks off with a mystery as the top students in all a number of schools start to get attacked and begin to disappear, and the other students will band together to find out who is behind these threats,” Ko added. “It will be a fun ride, very different from your regular comic. While some of the characters in RS do fight in the style of Street Fighter, some duels could be in the form of sports instead of actual fights! It is like Shaolin Soccer meets Street Fighter! I am sure that the Rival Schools comic will redefine what action is to the comic readers.

A MUST HAVE for all Die Hard Street Fighter fans.
