TARZAN THE LOST ADVENTURE. EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS
ILLUSTRATED BOOK

Includes the JOHN CARTER OF MARS comic strips from 1941, illustrated by John Coleman Burroughs, son of Edgar Rice Burroughs.

The Ape Man rampages through the African jungle once again in a brawny, brutal adventure that Burroughs (1875- 1950) left unfinished at his death. The story returns to the original pulp roots of Tarzan as a noble beast who drinks hot blood from his bare-handed kills and slays foes with abandon and near superhuman skill. This Tarzan is in the dark spirit of the Burroughs novels, and he's revived with pulpish glee by Lansdale, a smart choice whose own fiction (The Two-Bear Mambo, 1995) acknowledges the ferocity of life. Here, Tarzan, aided by Jad-bal-ja the lion and Nkima the chimp, defends a party of American archeologists in search of the Lost City of Ur. He combats brigands who would plunder the party and the jungle, the savage inhabitants of Ur and, finally, a mantis-like monster from the earth's core-a reminder that Burroughs's Tarzan novels were as much science fiction as jungle adventure. It's a fierce tale, told in rough prose, but readers who pant, for instance, at the sight of Tarzan slashing through a band of apes who have kidnapped a young blonde as their "slave" will thrill to this yarn.
Product Description
For nearly half a century, Edgar Rice Burroughs' final work, an unfinished Tarzan novel, was locked in a vault where it became the stuff of legend. In 1995, Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan: The Lost Adventure enjoyed its Dark Horse debut as a series of pulp-magazine format books. The tale -- completed by famed horror writer Joe R. Lansdale is illustrated throughout by such legends as Thomas Yeates, and featuring a cover by Arthur Suydam.

About the Author
Edgar Rice Burroughs is one of the world's most popular authors. With no previous experience as a writer, he wrote and sold his first novel--A Princess of Mars--in 1912. In the ensuing thirty-eight years, until his death in 1950, Burroughs produced ninety-one books and a host of short stories and articles. Although he is best known as the creator of the classic Tarzan of the Apes and John Carter of Mars, his restless imagination knew few bounds. Burroughs's prolific pen took readers from the American West to primitive Africa to romantic adventures on the moon, other planets, and beyond the farthest star. No one knows how many copies of Burroughs's books have been published throughout the world. It is conservative to say, however, that with translations into thirty-two known languages, including Braille, the number must run into the hundreds of millions. Considering the additional worldwide following of the Tarzan newspaper feature, radio programs, comic magazines, motion pictures, and television series, Burroughs and his works are certainly known and loved by a legion of fans.

Joe R. Lansdale is best known for his hard-hitting suspense novels such as Act of Love, Dead in the West, Savage Season, and Mucho Mojo. His short story collections include Writer of the Purple Rage and A Fistful of Stories.

JOHNNY THE HOMICIDAL MANIAC #5 COMIC BOOK!

OUT OF PRINT. HARD TO FIND COLLECTOR'S ITEM FEATURING JHOHEN VASQUEZ'S FIRST MACABRE CREATION.

Johen Vasquez is the creator of Invader Zim.

If you like black humor, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac is about as darkly funny as you can get. The whole thing reads like a manic Vincent Price movie—the sort of thing where the monster is having altogether too much fun.

Nobody knows what it was that sent Johnny over the edge, but he’s definitely there now. He lives in house #777, decorated with parts of his victims, a bunny nailed to the wall, and even an evil Pillsbury doughboy cookie jar. When none of them are busy talking to Johnny, he raves on to himself, contemplating suicide routinely before being distracted by a really good commercial on television. It’s the combination of murderous intensity and sudden banality that makes for much of this book’s humor.

HARD TO FIND COLLECTORS ITEM FOR FANS OF BATMAN.

Featuring full color painted artwork by JOHN BOLTON.

with breathtaking painted art by John Bolton (THE BOOKS OF MAGIC)! The Joker awakens drugged and confused on the streets of London...and he's undergone a shocking transformation!

Written by bat-seasoned Devin Grayson (of Nightwing and Batman: Gotham Knights fame) from concepts put forth by artist John Bolton (Batman: Man-Bat), this prestige-format original graphic novel has interesting ideas, including putting The Clown Prince of Crime in the unlikely role of detective. The villain’s clown-like mug has been disfigured (his trademark grin now resides on the back of his neck), and he must search the foggy streets of London for answers. The Dark Knight Detective does a little detective work of his own.

The Joker, who is dangerous, has an inner dialogue that gives readers insight into his warped, rambling, hyperactive mind. The story as a whole is at once weirdly hallucinogenic, resulting in a healthy dose of madness

fantastic high quality full color graphic novel printed on bright glossy paper stock.

The R. Crumb Sketchbook Volume 8 : Fall 1970 to Fall 1972 (R. Crumb Sketchbooks) [Paperback]
by Robert Crumb (Author)

Product Description
A look inside the creative process with Robert Crumb. R. Crumb is undoubtedly the foremost cartoonist of the latter 20th Century, and his sketchbooks - in which he has written and drawn continually from the early '60s to present - might rank as his finest achievement. Fantagraphics is proud to present these sketchbooks, in facsimile form, as a comprehensive series of volumes that will eventually run well over 4000 pages. Volume 8, covering 1971 through 1972, is the latest and it represents one of the more inquisitive and soul-searching periods in this phenomenal artist's life, as it coincides with Crumb's rise to fame and rejection of the late '60s hippie counterculture that made him famous

Described by art critic Robert Hughes as "the Brueghel of the 20th century," Robert Crumb has become the only sixties counter culture artist to break through into the fine art world with great acclaim. Laura Hoptman, curator of the Carnegie International said, "Crumb is one of the most subversive and important voices to come out of America in the 20th century." He's one of the greatest draftsmen of our time.

TAROT WITCH OF THE BLACK ROSE #30 COMIC BOOK
Written and drawn by JIM BALENT.

In Old Salem town, two sisters, both disciples of Wicca, or witchcraft, fight an epic battle in a centuries-long war for the acceptance and ascendance of witchcraft on earth. Raven Hex seeks to destroy nonbelievers while resurrecting her dead father, using any magical means necessary. Meanwhile Tarot, the “good witch,” aided by the strange Skeleton Man (a cemetery worker who can see the dead), hopes to stop her evil sister and all those who serve the powers of darkness. Jim Balent, who made his mark as an artist on DC’s Catwoman, writes and draws this modern day ghost story. He spins an interesting and spooky tale, and his women are, as always, beautiful (although almost ridiculously buxom). But more than the art and story, Balent is to be commended for his efforts to portray witchcraft and Wicca in a positive light, as his letter column and bonus interviews with real-life practicing witches attest.

Product Description
Often imitated, never duplicated, Oz Squad is the first and best comic book inspired by the classic Wizard of Oz series of books by L. Frank Baum. This collection is the first-ever edition to include every single issue, including the beloved Little Oz Squad Special. It is the ultimate collection and it comes with notes and annotations by the author, explaining some of the deeper mysteries and sillier aspects of the series. This edition features cover art by noted illustrator and Oz Historian David Lee Ingersoll. Alternately loved and reviled by fans, scrupulously researched by the author, this edition stands as the ultimate collection.

Oz Squad is a comic book updating of L. Frank Baum's Land of Oz series. In much th same way WICKED created a different way of looking at characters that we grew up with. This series predated Wicked by a number of years.

Its premise is that Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Cowardly Lion are now part of "Gale Force", a Mission Impossible type organization working to protect Oz from all manner of bizarre threats. Created and written by Steve Ahlquist, the series is complex and clever, playing with the mythology that Baum had created in the original children's books and updating it for a more grown up audience.

What is amazing about this series is that all the original stories did take place as the backstory and the explanation of how much darker the tone in this contemporary Land of Oz was the influence of the Earth seeping in and corrupting the wonderful world it was.

ROBERT CRUMB ART AND BEAUTY MAGAZINE #1

Robert Crumb's homage to those "art" magazines of the old days that were really just an excuse to show pictures of women. Lots and lots of gorgeous, curvey Crumb women in various stages of dress and otherwise, accompanied by commentary and quotations.
The drawings, mostly of the kind of buxom, thick-thighed girls long favored by the notoriously scrawny and bespectacled Crumb, were accompanied by written descriptions ("this study shows a beautiful girl in a frolicsome mood. . .") as well as heady quotes about the nature of art by people like Kenneth Clark, Friedrich Nietzsche, and John Berger.

Described by art critic Robert Hughes as "the Brueghel of the 20th century," Robert Crumb has become the only sixties counter culture artist to break through into the fine art world with great acclaim. When an alien spaceship crashed on Macross Island, it had a profound effect upon humanity. Suddenly shocked into realizing that they were not alone in the universe, the various races of man agreed to cease their fighting, and band together instead. They built upon the technology found in the wrecked spaceship, calling it “Robotech.” Using the products of that technology, they formed the Robotech Defenders, an Earth defense force.

Many years later, Robotech would face its greatest challenge, when it encounters the Zentraedi, a warlike alien race. Hopelessly outnumbered by the Zentraedi warships, the Robotech warriors must somehow beat the odds if Earth is to survive.

UNCENSORED MOUSE #1 COMIC BOOK!!
The series reprinted Mickey Mouse comics from the 1930s, though the strips were published without Disney's permission. As result of this, Eternity Comics printed the comic with totally black covers, bag and boarded (to prevent casual buyers from flipping through the comic), and the inside of the comic had a printed notice "Mickey Mouse is a registered trademark of Walt Disney Productions" so as not to confuse the market that it was an authorized Disney production. However, Eternity Comics had not violated any copyrights due to the fact that strips had fallen into public domain. Regardless, Disney brought a lawsuit against the company and the series was cancelled after two issues.

The strips were reprinted un-cut and as such contained racial stereotypes, language, and other things deemed inappropriate. Content such as this was more commonplace when the strip was first puplished in the 1930s.

Once upon a time (actually early 1989), the Mailbu Graphics group (Scott Rosenberg, Dave Olbrich, Tom Mason, Chris Ulm) was publishing the Eternity Comics line of independent black and white comic books.

Eternity Comics were able to reprint many of these classic comic strips thanks to the collections of the San Francisco Academy of Comic Art. The San Francisco Academy of Comic Art Collection was the life work of author and collector Bill Blackbeard.

Many of the classic comic strip collections published in the last thirty years are thanks to Bill Blackbeard's accumulation efforts which resulted in a source for some of the only existing copies of American comic strips. Supposedly, Blackbeard's research revealed that the copyright on the early MICKEY MOUSE comic strip had not been maintained and of course, Malibu Graphics thought this was a wonderful opportunity.

So Malibu Graphics through its Eternity Comics line would reprint the earliest MICKEY MOUSE comic strips under the title THE UNCENSORED MOUSE.

Each issue would have a totally black cover and no where on the cover or the backcover would there be a mention of "Mickey Mouse." There would be references to "a classic collection of Uncensored Floyd Gottfredson Comic Strips From the 1930s." Inside the comic book, there would be the notice that "Mickey Mouse is a registered trademark of Walt Disney Productions" to demonstrate that they were not trying to challenge that fact. In addition, each issue would be bagged and sealed so that a casual buyer couldn't flip through the comic book and mistake it for a Disney comic book. Basically, Malibu tried to do everything to indicate that while it may have had the right to publish the early comic strip, it was not intending to confuse the marketplace that this was an authorized Disney production.

Bill Blackbeard wrote a wonderful introduction for the first issue entitled "How Walt Disney Gave A Mickey to America-and Floyd Gottfredson Gave Us A Classic Mouse." That first issue was also supplemented with some great extras like reproductions of an OAKLAND POST-ENQUIRER (the nation's only newspaper to carry the strip from its start) page featuring the comic strip, the first Mickey Mouse Sunday page, a publicity drawing by Gottfredson for a 1936 issue of the HONOLULU ADVERTISER and more.

Rick Hunter, hero of the first series, is about to marry Lisa Hayes, admiral and captain of the new SDF-3 space fortress. This ship is being sent to the Robotech Masters’ home planet on a diplomatic mission. In actuality, the ship is loaded with the most-advanced Mecha technology available—just in case the diplomatic mission doesn’t work out.

Unless a miracle happens, they, and their knowledge of Protoculture technology, will fall into the hands of these dread alien invaders.

This series helps to bridge the gap between the storylines, events and characters seen in ROBOTECH MASTERS and NEW GENERATION.

The war against the deadly Invid finally reached Earth, with the bulk of the planet’s Robotech defenders still in deep space. The aliens easily crushed all resistance, claiming the planet as their own. An advance assault force, hoping to catch the Invid off-guard, was also defeated, and thousands of more resistance fighters were killed.

But one man survived. With his ship damaged, Scott Bernard relies on his Robotech cyclone cycle as both transportation and defense. Like the larger space-faring ships, the alien-based technology converts the cycle to battle armor when needed. Bernard hopes to destroy Reflex Point, the Invid Headquarters, avenging his lover and fallen friends.

He soon learns that the aliens are not the only enemy, and that many of the remaining humans will sacrifice even would-be saviors to appease their conquerors. Without the aid of his friend Rand and a mysterious female warrior, Bernard’s quest could already be over.

While they’re helping him recover, his memory and his deadly mission are coming back to him. Will he slay the humans who have helped him—particularly Angel, the young girl who has fallen in love with him? The Robotech saga continues and this episode assumes readers are familiar with the ins and outs of this anime-inspired story that has run through several comics over the years. Little is done to bring first-time readers up to speed, but the emotions in this black-and-white series are compelling enough to keep the pages turning.

DONATELLO #1 COMIC BOOK. TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

FEATURING FULL COLOR COVER

Published by Mirage Studios in 1986.

The original TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLE Indie/Underground Comic Book created by KEVIN EASTMAN and PETER LAIRD.

With the Foot scouring the sewers, the Turtles move in with April. When the water heater breaks down, Donatello goes down to the basement to fix it. Here Don meets April's tenant, Kirby, an artist whose mysterious power opens an adventure to another dimension. This issue was dedicated to Jack Kirby.

Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird thought they were making a joke about the countless mutant and kung-fu heroes in comics. So what better than to name their improbable series, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”? Little did they know that their joke would soon develop a cult of devoted fans, eventually turning them into an international phenomenon.

The Turtles: Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo, along with their rat sensei Splinter, are now one of the hottest tickets in town. Stars of stage, screen, and countless comics (including this, the original), they combine humor and action in a way that appeals to young children and hip intellectuals.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ORIGINAL MIRAGE TURTLES COMICS ARE A LITTLE MORE EDGIER AND LESS KID-FRIENDLY THAN THEIR CARTOON COUNTERPARTS!

Find out what happened in the ROBOTECH universe, beyond the events of the animated series!

Tsuguo Okazaki and Sukehiro Tomita produced a Japanese comics adaptation of the video series Macross II, and this title is an English translation of that comic. The story takes place eighty years after the first Macross story, and Earth has been successfully keeping the enemy Zentraedi at bay with recordings of pop songs. However, the enemy’s own singers have how arrived and in this story one of them is captured by a shallow young journalist and brought to Earth, causing changes in the singer, the journalist and the war. The pop-song defence was inherited from the first series, where it went almost unnoticed among all the other idiocies designed for the ten-year-old brain. Transplanted to a comic for adults, though, it looks very strange, and that does seem to be much of the point of the story: redesigning the enemy’s culture so that their reaction to the pop songs makes sense. The redesign works well, and the comic has a much more alien feel than the first series. Other changes: the artwork is much more varied and dramatic.

GREEN LANTERN #1 Comic Book. SPECIAL

RARE AND OUT OF PRINT! THE FIRST ISSUE OF THE COMIC BOOK STARRING JOHN STEWART, THE GREEN LANTERN WHO STARS IN THE ANIMATED JUSTICE LEAGUE TV SHOW.

The bold cover image sums up this story perfectly: the raw power of a Green Lantern is contrasted with an angry crowd demanding an end to racism and apartheid.

John Stewart has given up his power ring, and is on trial for crimes he allegedly committed as Green Lantern. Hal Jordan feels awful because he is the one actually responsible for the deeds in question! Worse, John is extradited to the nation of South Nambia for allegedly stealing from a mine there (also Hal’s fault), and treated poorly by the white law enforcement officers. Apartheid is in full effect there, and being a black man, John’s in deep trouble. The powers-that-be are trying to force him to sign a confession, but John would rather die first. Hal pays a visit to the desolate world of Oa, and after speaking to the lone Guardian still hanging around, he decides to illegally intervene on John’s behalf. John is not happy to see Hal, though, since he’s been incarcerated for Hal’s misdeeds, and he also blames Hal for the death of his wife. Hal returns John’s power ring, and while he refuses to use it at first, John eventually destroys the jail and breaks out after being savagely beaten and lashed by the racist guards. John joins up with black revolutionaries, but unbeknownst to him, some of them use extremely violent means to make their point. This catches the attention of Superman, who tells Hal to fix the problem or else he will. The revolutionaries plan to bomb two new supertankers, and use the unwitting John to threaten South Nambia’s leaders. Hal shows up to stop John, but the rogue Green Lantern beats the shit out of Hal while the revolutionaries kill a few of their enemies in the confusion. When the bombs go off, the two Green Lanterns put their differences aside to save the passengers and bystanders. John realizes that he was in the wrong, and takes off to be alone with his thoughts.
Writer James Owsley (who later changed his name to Christopher Priest) is highly skilled at crafting the same kind of real-world story; he championed it when writing Power Man and Iron Fist for Marvel Comics, and Owsley’s script makes The Green Lantern Special #1 a real standout in series lore.

Tod Smith’s clean art evokes that of Gil Kane, the legendary Silver Age penciler. There’s no super-fancy space battles here, or vast environments to explore. Except for a brief visit to Oa and a chat with Superman in orbit, the action is confined to Earth. Strong contrast is drawn between the rich, white-inhabited areas of South Nambia and the slums where blacks are forced to live, and Smith’s illustrations delineate this perfectly. Characters also great, and are given great development even through the art; the scene where the head prison guard wakes and has breakfast with his family looks bright and cheerful, really making it seem like he’s a decent man. (Even though we soon discover that he’s a racist.)

The Green Lantern Special #1 may have fallen under some fans’ radar, due to it being released at a point in time where a monthly Green Lantern comic did not exist. Still, as one of the rare superhero comics that tackles social issues well, it’s a fine story and worth hunting down.

SUPERMAN #1

COLLECTORS EDITION FIRST ISSUE COMIC BOOK.

This 1987 series began a major overhaul of the Superman legend. Artist/writer John Byrne reinvented Superman.

One of the temptations for a character like Superman is to make him seem more and more powerful, with each new feat outdoing the last. Over the years since his first appearance in Action Comics #1, this has certainly been the case, going even so far at one point as to show Superman moving the Earth back into its orbit. However, such a daunting character has a hard time finding an adequate challenge, and in time can get a little boring. DC comics realized this and decided to reinvent the Superman character, altering his origin somewhat and scaling back his powers to a more comprehensible level.

With this second volume, we see a far more interesting Superman than ever before. He has to try a little harder, and alter-ego Clark Kent is a more interesting character.

And there’s more: Superman never really discovered his powers until he was nearly 18, thus the adventures of Superboy never took place (and led to the TV series SMALLVILLE). And, even now that he’s Superman, his powers are nowhere near the level they were in the stories of yore. This new “Superman of the 80s” came as a shock to many fans, but it ultimately laid the groundwork for a new level of characterization.

For fans of FREDDY KRUEGER!

Featuring Full Color Painted artwork printed on high quality paper! This comic is as gorey and frightening as the Nightmare Films themselves!

The movie “Nightmare On Elm Street” introduced moviegoers to Freddy, a dead madman who stalks the dreams of Springwood’s citizens. Surprisingly popular, it spawned a number of “Elm Street” sequels, and Freddy even hosted a TV horror show.

Innovation’s comic title continues the saga of Springwood.

The claw-handed deadman named Freddy got his start in the movie “Nightmare on Elm Street.” Now after numerous sequels, he’s about to meet his end. Really.

In Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, we go back to Springwood to discover the shocking start of Krueger’s private story. Working through dreams, Freddy manages to round up the final surviving child of the Springwood parents who killed him, as well as his own now-grown daughter. Freddy gathers up these “loose ends” for a final battle in his world of nightmare.
