In 1996, longtime friend Charles Vess introduced Smith to fellow fantasy artist Linda Medley, known for her work at DC Comics as well as her own Self-published title, Castle Waiting. The three began to plan a national tour of comic book shops and conventions, traveling together on the road with huge portable sets of standing stones and a giant hollow tree featuring all their characters including BONE and THE RED DRAGON. They called it The Trilogy Tour.
