Book Description
Steven is afraid. Afraid of ghost stories, afraid of growing up ... just afraid. That is, until he meets the mysterious Showman and his Theatre of the Real. Steven takes a ticket and watches the show on a dare, but getting out of the performance will be harder than he ever imagined. And Steven learns what it is to be truly afraid. Neil Gaiman, internationally acclaimed writer of both prose fiction (Neverwhere, Stardust) and graphic novels (The Sandman, Signal to Noise) and artist Michael Zulli (The Sandman, The Dreaming) team up to create this dark and brooding morality tale. Originally published as part of the short-lived Marvel Music line of the early `90s, this stunning trade paperback features sepia-colored ink on cream paper to better showcase the lush beauty of Zulli`s duoshade artwork in an affordable 6x9 format.

A spooky collaboration between novelist and comics writer Gaiman (Sandman; and see review of American Gods, above) and creepy shock rocker Cooper, this is the story of Steven, a boy with many fears: girls, ghost stories and growing up among them. On a dare, he steps into an odd theater and meets a mysterious, top-hatted showman, an Alice Cooper-like figure (complete with dark eye-circles) who offers him a way to avoid his fears by simply giving up his "potential" and staying forever in a dreamy netherworld of spirits and wraiths. And after encountering Mercy, a beautiful ticket-taker in the ghostly theater, Steven gives the offer serious consideration. Cooper is the inspiration for the Grand Guignol of this demonic theater, a chilling metaphor for the seductive allure of complacency and indolence. Gaiman's story is a whimsical horror tale about confronting the fears within, and Zulli's black-and-white illustrations have a dark, emotive line, presented in a brownish, bloodlike hue that makes even a mundane, autumnal street scene seem eerie and foreboding.

About the Author
Neil Gaiman wrote the award-winning graphic novel series The Sandman, and with Terry Pratchett, the award-winning novel Good Omens. His first book for children, The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish, illustrated by Dave McKean, hasn't yet won any awards, but was one of Newsweek's Best Children's Books of 1997. Angels & Visitations, a small press story collection, was nominated for a World Fantasy Award and won the International Horror Critics Guild Award for Best Collection, despite not having any horror in it. Well, hardly any.Born in England, he now makes his home in America, in a big dark house of uncertain location where he grows exotic pumpkins and accumulates computers and cats. He is currently at work turning his first novel Neverwhere into a film for Jim Henson films.

The Chicago Tribune
"A twisting, wonderous tale full of magic."

-- St. Louis Post-Dispatch
"His finest work yet...Sometimes sparse, sometimes witty, often lyrical...prose as smooth as 12-year-old scotch."

Dayton Daily News
"A charming comic romance...Gaiman is a storytelling titan whose range, like his imagination, knows no bounds."

DEAD WORLD COMIC BOOK.

COLLECTOR'S ITEM!

This is the ORIGINAL COMIC BOOK featuring a great ZOMBIE Storyline.
RARE UNDERGROUND COMIX FROM 1990, published by Caliber Press.

Graphic Horror like your favorite Zombie Horror movies! In the tradition of the GEORGE ROMERO classics.

In Deadworld, the humans are hunted by armies of the living dead. And every human that falls just adds to their ranks. There is no military to come in and save the day. There are no miracles. All that remains is the grim hope of surviving day by day until the zombies come to get you.

And sometimes it’s the humans who are their own worst enemies. Some kill for power even while the zombies attack. Others are willing to sell out the locations of human enclaves to seal deals with the zombie leaders. Worst of all are the ones who are led around like dogs on leashes, whimpering slaves of the zombies.

Deadworld is a terrifying tale of fear, sorcery, and an unstoppable tide of death.

If one were to mix the story of Pandora’s Box with Night of the Living Dead, they would come up with Deadworld. Zombies walk the earth. Worse, a very few of these zombies are intelligent, and as a result are far more deadly. Very few humans still remain as a group of teens try to make their way to safety. Time and time again, the youngsters think they have found their new “home,” only to be attacked by the zombie’s leader King Zombie and his undead followers.

TRANSFORMERS VERSUS GI JOE VINTAGE COMIC BOOK.

published in 1987 by Marvel Comics.
GI Joe and the Transformers were Hasbro's two best selling toy lines. As one might guess, the Autobots teamed up the G.I. Joe and the evil Decepticons teamed up with Cobra.

This is the extremely rare issue.

COLLECTOR'S ITEM! Highly sought after.

Teaming-up the Transformers with the other popular Hasbro property of the 1980s, G.I. Joe. The Joes, the Autobots, and Cobra (after being betrayed by the Decepticons) must join forces to stop the Decepticons from activating an energy drill device to suck up energy from the Earth's core, which would destroy the planet in the process.

The plot revolves around a power station that has the potential to destroy the Earth and help the Decepticons rule their home planet of Cybertron. The story line keeps in sync with both the Transformers and G.I. Joe comic which provides some sudden strange shifts in the story. Therefor it is part of the official continuity of both GI Joe & Transformers.

The series does have importance, as the story featured Bumblebee being destroyed by G.I. Joe forces and rebuilt as Goldbug.

DEATH COMIC BOOK! THE HIGH COST OF LIVING

from the world of NEIL GAIMAN's SANDMAN
RARE and OUT OF PRINT.

HARD TO FIND COLLECTORS ITEM FEATURING THE SISTER OF THE SANDMAN, DEATH!

ORIGINAL 1st Print, 1st Edition Comic Book that was not sold in any mass market retail outlet and could only be found in comic book specialty stores. Highly desirable issue.

Features FANTASTIC DAVE MCKEAN cover.

Death the High Cost of Living, with a special SILVER INK enhanced cover.

Once every hundred years, The Sandman's sister takes the form of a human being so that she can experience life and DEATH for herself. With appearances by Mad Hettie and Mister E, following his journey home after his encounter with Death at the end of time
at the conclusion of Gaiman's Books of Magic.

The High Cost of Living is a continuation of Harvey Award-winning fantasy writer Gaiman's series detailing the cosmic duties of a loose family of seven immortals. Not quite Gods, they embody realms of psychic experience: Dream, Desire, Despair, Destiny, Delirium, Destruction and Gaiman's very popular character, Death. Reaper, yes; but Death's not very grim as she goes about her business visiting the just-about-to-die and ushering them into their new existence. In this story she meets Sexton, a teenager contemplating suicide, and they end up searching New York City to find a witch's heart (the old hag hid it centuries ago, it's a witch tradition), so the old girl can hide it again. Up pops the Eremite, an evil wizard type, out to steal Death's mysterious necklace, who makes the usual threats against life and limb. Gaiman has created a character sweetly at odds with her modbid duties; dressed like a Satanic rocker, she's as pretty as a cheerleader and even more upbeat. While Gaiman brings a gritty urban contemporaneity to the fantasy genre, the story also suffers from a TV script-like sensibility--danger-defying quips, the good-hearted overweight black neighbor, melodramatic villain. Nevertheless the combination of wry mystic immortal and MTV slacker produces an engaging chemistry. Top-notch production, and the illustration is stylishly rendered and very nicely colored.

Excerpt from BBC News! Tuesday, 30 May 2006

Batwoman hero returns as lesbian

Comic book heroine Batwoman is to make a comeback as a "lipstick lesbian" who moonlights as a crime fighter, a DC Comics spokesman has confirmed.

Batwoman - real name Kathy Kane - will appear in 52, a year-long DC Comics publication that began this month.

In her latest incarnation, she is a rich socialite who has a romantic history with another 52 character, ex-police detective Renee Montoya.

The series is set during a period in which established superheroes Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman have disappeared, and heroes such as BATWOMAN must fill their shoes.

Reinvention

The new-look Batwoman is just one of a wave of ethnically and sexually diverse characters entering the DC Comics universe.

Others include Mexican teenager Blue Beetle - who replaces the character's previous white incarnation - and the Great Ten, a government-sponsored team of Chinese superheroes.

Regular characters Firestorm and The Atom, meanwhile, have been reinvented as black and Asian heroes respectively.

The characters are part of a wider effort to broaden the make-up of comic-book creations in line with society as a whole.
Batwoman, who first appeared in July 1956, has not been seen since September 1979.

Featuring the humble beginnings of Villians from Batman's Rogues Gallery by Neil Gaiman and other talents, including SAM KEITH, co-creator of The Sandman and creator of THE MAXX (as seen on MTV's LIQUID TELEVISION)! Fantastic cover by BRIAN BOLLAND.
THIS EDITION IS LONG OUT OF PRINT. PUBLISHED IN 1989. ONE OF GAIMAN'S EARLIEST PUBLISHED WORK!

HARD TO FIND COLLECTOR'S ITEMS. One of the few times Gaiman wrote regular mainstream comic book characters like Batman and his Rogues.

Highly Recommended!

Gaiman writes the framing sequence as well as a very whimsical Secret Origin for the Riddler, which pays nostalgic homage to Frank Gorshin's portrayal of the character in the 1960's Adam West television adaptation of Batman. One of the more unique Batman stories of that era (which coincided with the first Time Burton Batman movie).
Sam Keith illustrates the Secret Origin of the Penguin with his unique art-style, and finally the Secret Origin of Harvey Dent AKA Two Face is explored.

He is currently at work turning his first novel Neverwhere into a film for Jim Henson films.
Asked why he likes comics more than other forms of storytelling Gaiman said “One of the joys of comics has always been the knowledge that it was, in many ways, untouched ground. It was virgin territory. When I was working on Sandman, I felt a lot of the time that I was actually picking up a machete and heading out into the jungle. I got to write in places and do things that nobody had ever done before. When I’m writing novels I’m painfully aware that I’m working in a medium that people have been writing absolutely jaw-droppingly brilliant things for, you know, three-four thousand years now. You know, you can go back. We have things like The Golden Ass. And you go, well, I don’t know that I’m as good as that and that’s two and a half thousand years old. But with comics I felt like — I can do stuff nobody has ever done. I can do stuff nobody has ever thought of. And I could and it was enormously fun.”

Garth Ennis is probably best known for his hard-hitting but historically accurate and empathetic War Stories. Battler Britton follows in the latter vein, fictionalising the heroics of World War II without shying too far away from the immense destructive force of modern warfare. If the book’s name sounds familiar, you may have come across Britton before, though not for a long time. The character is another of the classic characters from IPC’s archives which, along with Albion and a handful of others, have been resurrected for a modern audience.

Robert “Battler” Britton is a fighter pilot with the Royal Air Force. Commanding his own squadron of trusted veterans, he’s one of Britain’s most successful pilots, thanks to his superior strategic thinking, his courage, and his survivalist instinct that always seems able to get him back home if he has to ditch his aircraft.

Ennis’s take on the character sees him teaming up with an American squadron, camped behind enemy lines in the heart of the Sahara desert. Although the two squadrons take a bit of time to get over their cultural differences, Britton’s leadership pulls the group together to take on some serious German opposition.

"Battler Britton - England's Fighting Ace of Land, Sea and Air" was an IPC staple for over 25 years. He debuted in Sun #361 in January 1956, created by writer Mike Butterworth and artist Geoff Campion, then moved over to Knockout in 1960 after Sun folded. In 1960 and 1961, IPC/Fleetway published two hardback compilations of Battler's adventures – packaged as Battler's memoirs -- with authorship credited to "Wing Commander Robert Hereward Britton."

He entered his finest era in the early 1960s, creatively speaking, and began starring in the Air Ace Picture Library and Battle Picture Library digests
