NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET #1 MAGAZINE (Comics)

VINTAGE FIRST ISSUE COLLECTOR'S ITEM! PUBLISHED IN 1991.

For fans of FREDDY KRUEGER!

In 1989 Marvel Comics gave Freddy Krueger is own black and white magazine. The magazine only lasted for two issues due to the outcry from angry parents. Marvel wanted no part of the controversy and cancelled the book before the sales figures for the first issue came in. Apparently, none of the angry parents noticed the “Illustrated Horror for Mature Readers” warning on the covers.

The issues that did make it on to newsstands were written by Steve Gerber. Tony DeZuniga provided the killer art work while Alfredo Alcala handled finishes. Rich Buckler also contributed art to the first issue. The beautiful covers are by Joe Jusko.

This is an extremely rare issue, published by MARVEL COMICS in 1989.

Highly sought after.

Product Description
Gathered here are the collected works of the titans of adults comics--legendary underground cartoonist R. Crumb and the "high priest of comic-book naturalism" (Newsweek) Harvey Pekar. The comic collision of these underground luminaries is funny, obsessive, ever-so-slightly neurotic, but always biting and honest. Illustrations throughout.

Pekar's American Splendor is hands down the best adult comic book and maybe the best comic book, period, in the U.S. It is full of the adventures of Pekar himself--a genuine working-class intellectual, a clerk in a government hospital who on the side writes about jazz, the comics, and authors whose work deserves renewed attention. He writes and storyboards the stories and recruits professional comics artists to draw them. The most famous of these is his longtime friend, Robert Crumb, dean of the 1960s "underground" comics artists and subject of the extravagantly praised documentary film Crumb (1994). The touchstones for the formal qualities and attitudes of these cartoon-illustrated slices-of-life are the stories of such urban impressionists as Grace Paley and Meyer Liben and the films of the French new wave directors, especially Jean-Luc Godard and Eric Rohmer. Pekar and Crumb don't derive from those artists, however; they are their peers

Both Robert Crumb (Self-Loathing Comics), who defined the underground comics of the 1960s, and Harvey Pekar (Cancer Year), whose autobiographical comic (American Splendor) launched an entire movement in the 1980s, have transformed American alternative comics. Four Walls Eight Windows is releasing Bob & Harv's Comics, a collection of their pithy collaborations (Crumb illustrates Pekar's stories) that also shows how superbly suited they are to interpret each other's work.

Described by art critic Robert Hughes as "the Brueghel of the 20th century," Robert Crumb has become the only sixties counter culture artist to break through into the fine art world with great acclaim. Laura Hoptman, curator of the Carnegie International said, "Crumb is one of the most subversive and important voices to come out of America in the 20th century." He's one of the greatest draftsmen of our time.

"I never get bored seeing more work from a master who is so obsessively in love with the act of drawing; every image, even and otherwise prosaic still life from a 'pizzeria in St. Hyppolyte du Fort, ' captures the eye and imagination." -- Steven Heller "The New York Times Book Review"

A-TEAM #1 COMIC BOOK!

OUT OF PRINT. HARD TO FIND COLLECTOR'S ITEM!

Published by Marvel Comics in 1984.

In Viet Nam they were an elite commando force, but they were court-martialed for a crime they didn’t commit. Escaping from an army stockade, they fled to Los Angeles where they became soldiers of fortune. Still hunted by the army, they became the A-Team: taking on impossible cases for people in trouble.

The A-Team is comprised of a number of people, each with their own particular skills. The crazed “Howling Mad Murdock” is a technician and pilot; “Face” is a pretty boy who uses his charms for undercover work; and Amy Allen had been a reporter investigating the team when she became so impressed that she joined. Led by tactician Hannibal Smith, the team’s real star is strong man B.A. Baracus, better known to fans as Mr. T.

Although spectacularly successful on TV, the A-Team’s comics debut ran for just three issues in 1984.

Product Description
Don't worry about choosing sides, because this far into the heart of darkness things get pretty gray. Follow Private Ed Marks and his fellow soldiers through a jungle of blood, lies, betrayal, and valor. It's the war that defined a generation, where the heroes may not be super, but they're all too human.

The 'Nam was an historical fiction series published in comic book form, detailing the U.S. War in Vietnam from the perspective of active-duty soldiers involved in the conflict. It was written by Doug Murray, illustrated by Michael Golden, edited by Larry Hama and published by Marvel Comics.

The creators intended to roughly parallel the analogous events of the period of major American military involvement in Vietnam from 1966 to 1972.

The comic is structured as the narrative of a fictional soldier, Private First Class Edward Marks (but sometimes following other characters), as he experiences real events that occurred during the conflict. Each issue of the comic tells a story that occurs one month after the previous issue.

Vietnam War veteran Larry Hama (creator of the second incarnation of GI JOE in the eighties) contacted fellow vet Doug Murray in 1984 about doing a Vietnam War series for Marvel Comics. Murray said that the comic was, "a pretty accurate view of the way the average soldier looked at the war. It was outside ordinary experience. The world was elsewhere." Murray decided to do the comic book in real-time so that one issue equaled one month to convey the concept of short-time. He said, "Literally everybody had a calendar that kept track of how long they had to go in-country. I really wanted a way to kind of reflect that in the comic book." The actions of the 23rd Infantry were based on fact. This did not mean that they were in every action depicted in the book - only that that historical event actually occurred. In addition, every issue featured a back-of-the-book glossary explaining the authentic lingo of the characters.

During its run, The 'Nam was nominated for the Best New Series category of the 1987 Jack Kirby Awards.

Marine Corps. veteran and former Newsweek editor William Broyles Jr. praised the comic for having, "a certain gritty reality,"

This comic book was never available to the mass market and was only sold in comic book specialty shops.

A very quirky book. This is done not to be outright laugh out loud funny, but if you take that sort of Mystery Men style, cross it with Yes Minister or even the My Hero tv show, and inject some of the pathos from the Wild Cards anthology style with many writers, you are somewhere in the ballpark. Power range from the unnoticeable Invisible Boy to a guy who can turn into a giant frog (that can't swim), to the far more powerful human erectile man, and nasty illusion casters.

Lenore, "the Cute Little Dead Girl" is a fictional character created by Roman Dirge, inspired by the poem "Lenore," by Edgar Allan Poe.

The comic tells of the adventures of the title character, Lenore, and her variety of friends. The primary focus is dark humor, with many of the stories having amusing twist endings. Common themes are the reinvention of children's songs, games, and nursery rhymes to something more macabre, and subverting all sorts of pop culture icons and cultural figures in to topics of dark comedy.

Roman Dirge (born on April 29, 1972) is an artist and magician, and the creator of the Lenore comic-book series; he currently lives in Los Angeles, California.le to find!

With her pale face, huge eyes, skull barrettes, lack of a pulse, and propensity for senseless violence, Lenore could be the next full-fledged, merchandise-ready goth-girl icon. This compendium collects four comics, though there’s no through line anywhere. Rather, each issue is a hodgepodge of stories, poems, twisted fables, and tattoo designs. The jokes are pretty sick and swerve between genius (the taxidermied chipmunk who bemoans his missing back half until Lenore jams a pair of Barbie legs onto it) and the uncomfortably cruel (“Kittie #53” involves the relatively straightforward drowning of a cat). What keeps it afloat—for the right reader, of course—is Lenore’s obliviousness to wrongdoing. When she engages in “13 hours of gnome slaughter,” it’s only because she was overcaffeinated. It’s all a lot funnier and cuter than it sounds, which is a credit to Dirge’s ability to inject personality into his morbid mix of pale colors and black humor. Interestingly, Dirge’s occasional autobiographical intrusions (“Things Involving Me”) steal the show.
Review
"Through Lenore, roman reminds us that what lurks inside this reanimated ragamuffin is what lurks in...us all..." -- Nivek Ogre, from the introduction

Lenore does all the things the voices in my head want me to do. -- Jessicka, Jack Off Jill

Roman Dirge has the best imagintation this side of Tim Burton. -- Caroline Thompson, writer, Nightmare before Christmas

Three Fingers Graphic Novel [Paperback]
Rich Koslowski (Author, Artist)

A SPOOF OF WALT DISNEY AND MICKEY MOUSE.

Product Description
A behind-the-scenes mocumentary of the animation industry. Through a series of never-before-seen interviews and rare photos, documentary-maker Rich Koslowski reveals the horrifying true story behind the Cartoon industry and our most celebrated cartoon actors-the story that Hollywood doesn't want you to see!

Roger Rabbit meets Behind the Music in this graphic novel that uses interviews and historical "photos" to reveal the sordid truth behind the rise of anthropomorphic animal stars in Hollywood's golden age. The focal character is Rickey Rat, whom filmmaker Dizzy Walters discovered in a seedy nightclub in the segregated part of Columbus, Ohio, known as Toonsville. Rickey's rise to fame should have opened the door to other toon stars, but for some reason audiences resisted those who tried to follow in his footprints. Desperate to emulate his success, toon actors even began copying the birth defect that left him with only three fingers by means of a surgical mutilation that came to be known as "the ritual." The premise is clever, and Koslowski executes it skillfully, placing the toon characters in a world quite recognizable as our own. Even if there isn't much here beyond that premise, it is great fun to see stars like "Buggy Bunny," "Portly Pig," and "Dapper Duck" blow the lid off Toonsville in this comic a clef.
From the Publisher
Rich Koslowski has worked in the Animation and Comic Book industry for the past 12 years. Rich is best known for his Eisner nominated work on his self-published parody title The 3 Geeks, a book about three typical comic book fanatics. He got his start working as an inker at Archie comics on the popular "Sonic the Hedgehog" series. Other Archie titles he's worked on have included "Jughead", "Veronica", and "Archie's Weird Mysteries". Rich and his wife Sandra (who helps on all his books) live in Shorewood, Wisconsin.

this work takes a more realistically drawn, documentary-style approach to its story of an alternate world where cartoons exist alongside humans, albeit as second-class citizens. Mimicking a television expos‚'s hyperbolic format, Koslowski alternates confessional head shots of interviewees with "archival" stills that narrate the history of toons in film. Koslowski began in animation, and its influence is visible in his ability to capture finely shifting facial expressions and in his preoccupation with animated cartoons. Dizzy Walters, a visionary figure strangely reminiscent of Walt Disney, has founded an entertainment empire on the charisma of his formerly down-and-out toon prot‚g‚, Ricky Rat. But lurking beneath this rag-to-riches story are rumors of a nasty "ritual," a surgical enhancement many toons are desperate to have done hence the book's title with the implicit demand of studio executives. The pressure has driven Ricky to depression and a bad cigarette habit. The ensuing mockumentary offers testimony from Ricky's peers on the vile practice: toons such as Buggy Bunny and Sly Vester Jr. sound off on the "ritual," and celebrities come out strongly against it. Koslowski even suggests the ritual could be behind many of the notorious assassinations and deaths during the 1960s and '70s.

While the Farscape TV series ended in 2004, its universe shows no signs of slowing down. This volume contains the first four issues of the comic book written by the series creator. The story takes place just after the miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, which followed the original TV series, so it is essential for readers to be familiar with these shows in order to appreciate and understand it. John Crichton, the former astronaut who spent years as the only human in a group of aliens, plans to settle down with his wife and child. But when Rygel, Chiana, and Jothee are captured and held prisoner on planet Hyneria, he has no choice but to try and rescue them. When his strong-willed wife refuses to stay behind, it becomes a family rescue mission, bringing even more risk and danger to the equation. The colorful artwork effectively captures the action, and is especially stunning when highlighting the skin tones, clothing, and skies of this alien world. An unusual but welcome bonus is O'Bannon's original story that was adapted into the script of these comics. While this book's reading level is appropriate for teens, it will be most appreciated by adult fans of the original series who will delight in revisiting old friends.

ALICE COOPER COMIC BOOK!

OUT OF PRINT. HARD TO FIND COLLECTOR'S ITEM!

Published by Marvel Comics in 1979.

Alice Cooper's 1st comic book appearance!

Marvel Premiere went all out into the world of ROCK!!!! with this corker, the Alice Cooper special. It was all based around the album Alice was plugging at the time, a typically blackly comic concept piece, where, suffering from stress, the rancid rocker is sectioned into an asylum that closely resembles a microcosm of seventies America.

From The Inside is actually a surprisingly poppy album ( yep, I loved the comic so much I went out and bought the record ), though as Alice co-wrote it with Bernie Taupin, the guy who wrote all of Elton John's '70's hits, maybe that isn't that much of a surprise.

The comic version, plotted by Alice, Jim Salicrup & Roger Stern, scripted by Ed Hannigan and illustrated by the unbeatable team of Tom Sutton & Terry Austin, follows the album more or less exactly, and is just about the most fun you can legally have with a comic book. It's full of in-jokes and insanity

THUNDERCATS return in this all new issue with cover by ED MCGUINNESS! For Fans of Lion-O and his team. Find out what happened beyond the final episode of the original television series.

Ed McGuinness pencils the Thundercats in an all-new miniseries, beginning immediately where the popular cartoon left off with New Thundera restored, and Thundercats King Lion-O gathering his old friends. But there are dark tidings brewing at Mumm-Ra's Pyramid, where the Ancient Spirits of Evil have concocted a nefarious plan to free the Shadowmaster from the Shadow Realm. It's up to Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro, Cheetera and the Thunderkittens to save the day!

To aid in his continuing quest to destroy the Thundercats once and for all, Mumm-ra solicits the help of past allies Slythe and the mutants ? vowing that their stupidity will not interfere with his plans again. When the mutants attack Lion-O, Tygra and Hachiman while bringing down the Feliner ship, the stage is set for the battle royale every Thundercats fan has been waiting for!

Thundercats action in the classic style continues as Lion-O leads an expedition to acquire needed Thundrillium supplies from the Caverns of the Moon ? and the Lunataks take advantage of their absence to attack the Cat's Lair! Low on Thundrillium to power weapons, with most of their strongest warriors away, how will those left behind in New Thundera survive? And will whoever's in that approaching refugee ship really change the lives of the Thundercats forever?

The struggle to explore and establish New Thundera isn't without risks for our heroes. When one of the Thunderkittens is kidnapped by Mumm-Ra the Everliving, the stage is set for a battle to the finish between Lion-O and Mumm-Ra ? the Sword of Omens versus the Sword of Plundarr.

Lion-O has to do battle with Grune the Destroyer, armed by Mumm-Ra with the Sword of Plundarr, when Grune challenges Lion-O for the very throne of Thundera itself! The struggle that ensues when these mighty warriors meet brings WildStorm's first smash-hit Thundercats miniseries to a powerhouse conclusion ? and sets the stage for more adventures to come!

Written by NEIL GAIMAN (Sandman, Coraline, Neverwhere, American Gods, Books of Magic, Black Orchid, Miracleman).

Art by DAVE MCKEAN (Batman: Arkham Asylum, Sandman).

An amazing portfolio of dark and arresting imagery, THE SANDMAN DUST COVERS: THE COLLECTED SANDMAN COVERS presents the haunting artwork of this critically acclaimed and award-winning epic. Through these dynamic pieces, Dave McKean reflected the mesmerizing mythology, adult nature, and imaginative storytelling that made the story of Morpheus, the King of Dreams, such a groundbreaking series.

Featuring an exclusive Sandman tale, this collection also includes insightful and revealing cover commentaries by Sandman author Neil Gaiman.

If you are reading this, I will assume that you are already a fan of either Dave McKean in particular or Sandman in general.

Included are all the covers from the Sandman series minus the logo, publisher and price indicia, UPC codes, etc., thus showcasing these wonderful works of art in the format they deserve. Also included are some extra pages of art used to fill out the Sandman trade paperback collections. Even if you own the whole series, it is a worthwhile buy. But what makes the collection particularly unique is the inclusion of a brand new true story by Neil Gaiman and McKean about how the ficitonal world of the Sandman intruded upon their lives during the planning stage of the series.

As other reviewers have noted, the artwork is worth viewing on its own merits and deals with universal themes from the unconscious, so even if you don't know what the heck Sandman is it is worth a look. This is surrealism at its height by a master of many artistic media including painting, collage and computer graphics.

About the Author
Neil Gaiman wrote the award-winning graphic novel series The Sandman, and with Terry Pratchett, the award-winning novel Good Omens. His first book for children, The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish, illustrated by Dave McKean, hasn't yet won any awards, but was one of Newsweek's Best Children's Books of 1997. Angels & Visitations, a small press story collection, was nominated for a World Fantasy Award and won the International Horror Critics Guild Award for Best Collection, despite not having any horror in it. Well, hardly any.Born in England, he now makes his home in America, in a big dark house of uncertain location where he grows exotic pumpkins and accumulates computers and cats. He is currently at work turning his first novel Neverwhere into a film for Jim Henson films.

Collecting the file cards of the GI JOE team! published by MARVEL COMICS in 1986.

Notes:
Includes Profiles of G.I. Joes never included in any comic book series:
Red Dog, Rocky, and Taurus.

Having its origin in a line of toys, its not surprising that G.I. Joe, a Real American Hero gave birth to a huge cast of characters and equipment. If readers couldn’t keep it all straight without a scorecard, they’re finally in luck: G.I. Joe Order of Battle is a guide to all the various Joes, giving the lowdown on their secret identities, specialties, and more.

Contains everything you ever wanted to know about the characters and vehicles of the Joe universe.

GI JOE ORDER OF BATTLE was a series published by Marvel Comics in late 1986. Not a comic book in the ordinary sense of the word, instead it contained illustrated biographies describing current GI JOES of that period.

Basically compiles the character file cards from the GI JOE packaging, although there are some differences.

With that knowledge in mind, it's no exaggeration to say that the GI JOE ORDER OF BATTLE is an invaluable source of information.

RARE and OUT OF PRINT.

HARD TO FIND COLLECTORS ITEM FOR FANS OF WOLVERINE.

This story takes place not long after Kitty Pryde joined the X-Men (when she was still called “Ariel”). The tale began when Kitty learned that her father, a prominent Illinois banker, was being blackmailed by the Yakuza (Japanese mob). They threatened to reveal that he had tampered with his bank’s books unless he went with them to Japan to help them in their money-laundering operations. Kitty overheard the conversation and resolved to follow her father to Japan and rescue him. Quickly discovering that she was way over her head, Kitty called on fellow X-Man Wolverine, who quickly traveled to Japan to aid her.

In this action-packed series, the two struggle together to survive the Yakuza and save Kitty’s father. Along the way, they encounter both Yukio, a dangerous ronin with a heart of gold, and Lady Mariko, Wolverine’s great love, and the incidental head of a powerful crime family.
