Published by the Todd McFarlane studio at Image, Kiss: Psycho Circus is more than just an homage to the over-the-top rockers of yore. Like the Marvel Kiss specials that preceded it by some two decades, it attempts to cast the members of a rock glam band as mythical figures. Unlike that earlier effort, however, Kiss: Psycho Circus actually succeeds.
The result is far more surreal than you might imagine. Employing an art style made famous on comics such as Spawn, it tells of a “circus” of sorts where four “creatures of pure spirit, encompassing aspects of both dark and light, heaven and hell” pass judgment upon the living. These are the Demon (a.k.a. Gene Simmons in the real band), the Starbearer (Ace Frehley), the Celestial (Paul Stanley), and the King of Beasts (drummer Peter Criss).

Marvel Premiere went all out into the world of ROCK!!!! with this corker, the Alice Cooper special. It was all based around the album Alice was plugging at the time, a typically blackly comic concept piece, where, suffering from stress, the rancid rocker is sectioned into an asylum that closely resembles a microcosm of seventies America.
From The Inside is actually a surprisingly poppy album ( yep, I loved the comic so much I went out and bought the record ), though as Alice co-wrote it with Bernie Taupin, the guy who wrote all of Elton John's '70's hits, maybe that isn't that much of a surprise.
The comic version, plotted by Alice, Jim Salicrup & Roger Stern, scripted by Ed Hannigan and illustrated by the unbeatable team of Tom Sutton & Terry Austin, follows the album more or less exactly, and is just about the most fun you can legally have with a comic book. It's full of in-jokes and insanity
When the King passed away, it was said that a strange imprint was found on the floor of the shag carpeting where last he lay. Experts believe that the mark was from his jaw—the source of all his greatness.
Some believe that a great conspiracy had arisen, and that Elvis’ body had been exhumed from Graceland and reburied—without the mandible! The mandible was then said to have circulated between the Mafia, the CIA, the KGB, and the inventor of Pachisi (Parchesi)…finally coming to rest in the hands of one Karl Joergins.
Karl, a graphic designer, was determined to find the great Karmic secrets of the Elvis Mandible. Doing so cost him his job and his sanity, but it is said that he finally found the cosmic door he had been looking for…a door which is unlocked by the mandible’s secret power!
