The well-written stories deal with contemporary themes, set in a science-fiction world. There are a few advantages to a contemporary comic book format, though: the sets and costumes for the aliens have the advantage of being drawn by imagination, not constructed with a limited special-effects budget; and the women are a bit better-dressed and better-behaved around the Captain.
"The Return!" The new Enterprise introduced after the events of "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" departs on it's first mission, a rescue operation. Elsewhere, the Klingon Empire puts a bounty on Captain Kirk's head.

Most of her crew stayed on with notable exceptions. McCoy retired and returned home to be an “old country doctor.” Spock returned to Vulcan and began the Ritual of Kohlinar that would eventually purge his remaining human emotions. Kirk was promoted to admiral and foolishly accepted a desk-bound assignment. Two-and-a-half years later, an immensely powerful alien probe traveling towards Earth and cleaving a wide path of destruction reunites the entire crew of the Enterprise.
