MARTIN LUTHER KING GRAPHIC NOVEL HO CHE ANDERSON BIOGRAPHY CIVIL RIGHTS PAINTED!

MARTIN LUTHER KING GRAPHIC NOVEL Includes some beautiful painted artwork. Praised for its vivid recreation of this tumultuous period in US history and for its accuracy in depicting King's personal and public lives, this volume picks up where 2002's second volume left off: LBJ signs the Civil Rights bill into law and Martin Luther King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference begin their northern campaign by moving into the Chicago neighborhood of North Lawndale, Illinois. After a largely unsuccessful effort to reduce racial tensions and organize Black resistance into a democratic political force, King is persuaded to go to Memphis to lead a march in support of the city's sanitation workers. The march turns violent, but in order to maintain his credibility, King decides to go back and try to lead a second, peaceful march. His return trip to Memphis will be the last trip King makes. Anderson's writing and art illuminates King's deeply felt, personal commitment to a public cause as well as the wider political eruptions the country was experiencing through a rare and skillful combination of realistic and expressionistic imagery and naturalistic dialogue. This is a respectful, unsparing, truthful biography of a man and his times that captures the moral and political gravitas of the cause as well as its human dimension. Anderson's successful use of comics to tell a major work of history has drawn favorable comparisons to Art Spiegelman's Maus: A Survivor's Tale and Joe Sacco's Palestine. MARTIN LUTHER KING GRAPHIC NOVEL HO CHE ANDERSON BIOGRAPHY CIVIL RIGHTS DREAM!!!

MARTIN LUTHER KING GRAPHIC NOVEL Ho Che Anderson's controversial second graphic novel based on the life of the revered civil rights leader. The long-awaited sequel to the graphic novel biography of the life and career of civil rights leader Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., which will ultimately trace the life of the late civil rights leader from his birth to assassination. Winner of a 1995 Parents' Choice Award, yet decidedly controversial, speculative and intended for adults, King Volume I garnered extensive press coverage and was Fantagraphics' best-selling book in the company's history when published in 1992. King Volume II picks up where King Volume I left off, probing King's life story with an unflinchingly critical eye, casting King as an ambitious, dichotomous figure deserving of his place in history but not above moral sacrifice to get there. Anderson's expressionistic visual style is wrought with dramatic energy; panels evoke a painterly attention to detail but juxtapose with one another in such a way as to propel King's story with cinematic momentum. Anderson's successful use of the graphic novel to tell a major work of nonfiction has drawn favorable comparisons to Art Spiegelman's Maus: A Survivor's Tale and Joe Sacco's Safe Area Gorazde: The War In Eastern Bosnia 1992-1995. PALESTINE 2 COMIC BOOKS JOE SACCO MIDDLE EAST JOURNALIST GAZA STRIP WEST BANK!!!

PALESTINE 2 COMIC BOOKS! JOE SACCO Hard to find Prior to Safe Area Gorazde: The War In Eastern Bosnia 1992-1995 — Joe Sacco's breakthrough novel of graphic journalism — the acclaimed author was best known for Palestine, a graphic novel that won an American Book Award in 1996. Fantagraphics Books is pleased to present this landmark of journalism and the art form of comics. Based on several months of research and an extended visit to the West Bank and Gaza Strip in the early 1990s (where he conducted over 100 interviews with Palestinians and Jews), Palestine was the first major comics work of political and historical nonfiction by Sacco, whose name has since become synonymous with this graphic form of New Journalism. Like Safe Area Gorazde, Palestine has been favorably compared to Art Spiegelman's Pulitzer Prize-winning Maus for its ability to brilliantly navigate such socially and politically sensitive subject matter within the confines of the comic book medium. Sacco has often been called the first comic book journalist, and he is certainly the best. This edition of Palestine also features an introduction from renowned author, critic, and historian Edward Said (Peace and Its Discontents and The Question of Palestine), one of the world's most respected authorities on the Middle Eastern conflict. This comic book was never available to the mass market and was only sold in comic book specialty shops. RARE and OUT OF PRINT! Impossible to find!

After many Eisner and Harvey comics awards, the Complete Crumb series comes to a close (at least in its current format—we will continue to collect the entirety of Crumb's career in single-volume collections like Hup and Mystic Funnies, beginning in 2005). This 17th volume collects a creatively fertile period for Crumb, having given up the editorial reins of his own legendary Weirdo magazine, allowing Crumb to get back to the proverbial drawing board. Included are Crumb's contributions to Weirdo from this period, as well as work from Whole Earth Review, Zap Comix, Premiere magazine, as well as many other rare gems. This volume, as with all volumes, includes a new introduction by Crumb as well as a new cover. The Complete Crumb series leaves no stone unturned, publishing everything from Crumb's most well-known comics to little-seen commercial art and rarely-if-ever seen treasures from private collections and the artist's archives.

Described by art critic Robert Hughes as "the Brueghel of the 20th century," Robert Crumb has become the only sixties counter culture artist to break through into the fine art world with great acclaim. Laura Hoptman, curator of the Carnegie International said, "Crumb is one of the most subversive and important voices to come out of America in the 20th century." He's one of the greatest draftsmen of our time.

"I never get bored seeing more work from a master who is so obsessively in love with the act of drawing; every image, even and otherwise prosaic still life from a 'pizzeria in St. Hyppolyte du Fort, ' captures the eye and imagination." -- Steven Heller "The New York Times Book Review"

MR NATURAL ROBERT CRUMB HRDCVR GRAPHIC NOVEL UNDERGROUND COMIX BBW SEXY BOOK NEW

BOOK OF MR NATURAL HARDCOVER GRAPHIC NOVEL

Described by art critic Robert Hughes as "the Brueghel of the 20th century," Robert Crumb has become the only sixties counter culture artist to break through into the fine art world with great acclaim. Laura Hoptman, curator of the Carnegie International said, "Crumb is one of the most subversive and important voices to come out of America in the 20th century." He's one of the greatest draftsmen of our time.

* Hardcover: 128 pages
* Publisher: Fantagraphics Books; 1 edition (July 6, 2010)
* Language: English
* ISBN-10: 1606993526
* ISBN-13: 978-1606993521

A Crumb classic featuring his signature creation, available in hardcover for the first time!
This collection features over 120 pages of vintage Crumb comics starring the white-bearded, diminutive sage-cum-charlatan, ranging from charming, free-wheeling early ’70s stories to the disturbing, controversial ’90s stories (as seen in the Crumb movie), including the entire 40-page “Mr. Natural and Devil Girl” epic. Crumb’s Mr. Natural is probably the most famous underground character of all (topping even Fritz the Cat and the Freak Brothers), recognizable even to “civilians.” Don’t miss this opportunity to snatch up this jam-packed collection of comics from one of the all-time masters! 112 pages of black-and-white comics

Amazon.com Review
Mr. Natural is a 1960s guru, "th' only knower of th' cosmic mysteries alive at this time." Calling him a "mystic madcap" gives the crass, less-than-compassionate charlatan the benefit of the doubt. He is not particularly wise or helpful; in fact, he's a lecherous, grumbling old geezer who gives advice such as "When you arise in the morning, you should do last night's dirty dishes . . . then you should sing a simple melody (of your own choice) . . . then you should call somebody up (not me) . . . then go to the store . . . buy some asparagus." True to the collection's name and R. Crumb's reputation, the stories are sometimes sexually graphic (especially in the scenes with Devil Girl) and a bit on the violent side. Still, there's an innocent, upbeat quality to this comic reflection of America's most notoriously freewheeling decade. -
From Booklist
Seminal underground comics artist Crumb has lately gained wider recognition, thanks to an acclaimed documentary about him. Libraries wanting some representative Crumb in the wake of the movie may be better served by this single volume featuring one of his most famous creations than by the multivolume reprinting of all of his work that Fantagraphics has about half-completed. The bearded, robed, curmudgeonly guru Mr. Natural hasn't changed much since his 1967 debut. An ever-serene-but-horny philosopher-for-hire, dispensing enlightenment to an undeserving world--is he a wise, grizzled mystic or a cynical charlatan? A teller of timeless truths or a sixties anachronism? Wherever he appears, so do his most loyal acolyte, Flakey Foont, and his obsession, the lusty Devil Girl. The collection constitutes a sheer delight for those who have followed the Natch's exploits over the years, yet it is completely accessible to nonaficionados--at least those undaunted by the raunchiness that is another thing that hasn't changed since the sage's early days.
Review
“This is one of the better Christmas-gift books Fantagraphics ever made... A kind of Crumb-primer, or Crumb for people who might want to get at him from a more standard comics stories standpoint.” (Tom Spurgeon - The Comics Reporter )

After many Eisner and Harvey comics awards, the Complete Crumb series comes to a close (at least in its current format—we will continue to collect the entirety of Crumb's career in single-volume collections like Hup and Mystic Funnies, beginning in 2005).

Robert Crumb's long day's journey into the '70s continues with this volume of classic material from 1972 and 1973. The sunny psychedelic era is a fading memory for the counterculture, and Crumb's work of that period reflects a darker, more introspective artist at work. This volume includes Crumb's first collaboration with Harvey Pekar — a long partnership that would help turn Pekar into an alternative comics star. This politically incorrect volume spotlights some of Crumb's most outrageous strips, including the complete contents of XYZ Comics, plus selections from Zap #6, Tales from the Leather Nun, San Francisco, and others. This volume also includes the ultra-rare drawings from the 1972 cookbook Eat It written by Crumb's ex-wife (20 pages' worth — a bonanza for Crumb lovers), rare and unpublished album cover art, and (in full color) Crumb's funny spoof of fellow undergrounder Jay Lynch's Nard 'n' Pat. All this, plus an all-new cover and introduction by the ol' Pooperoo himself — is it any wonder this is one of the most highly acclaimed and best-selling collections of classic comics ever released?

Product Description
A look inside the creative process with Robert Crumb. R. Crumb is undoubtedly the foremost cartoonist of the latter 20th Century, and his sketchbooks - in which he has written and drawn continually from the early '60s to present - might rank as his finest achievement. Fantagraphics is proud to present these sketchbooks, in facsimile form, as a comprehensive series of volumes that will eventually run well over 4000 pages. Volume 8, covering 1971 through 1972, is the latest and it represents one of the more inquisitive and soul-searching periods in this phenomenal artist's life, as it coincides with Crumb's rise to fame and rejection of the late '60s hippie counterculture that made him famous
