According to the story, the Undertaker had ruled Stygian for untold ages, and would have continued to do so if not for the invasion of a druid named Augustus, who also called himself The Embalmer. Gaining entrance to Stygian, the Embalmer battled the Undertaker, intent on claiming three books which contained a prophecy by a being called the Death Scribe. Much of the World Wrestling Federation’s backdrop borrows from the epic good vs. evil plot of standard super-hero comics. So it is only natural that they make a foray into this classic, four-color medium. The latest endeavor for the WWF features the grim and gruesome Undertaker.

We quickly learn that the Undertaker is the sole guardian of Stygian, Hell’s prison. He seeks to gain all three Books of the Dead, of which he currently holds the third volume, to keep control of his chaotic dungeon. His quest takes him to the squared-circle of the wrestling arena where he battles those demons in human guise that have escaped his realm. Opposing him in this Herculean task are the arcane Embalmer and the mysterious Paul Bearer. “Remember,” Death Scribe writes, “in Hell, you can trust no one.”
