New in Stock we have a few issues of NIGHTMARES ON ELM STREET, a full color painted comic book series published by INNOVATION COMICS back in 1991.

Although Marvel Comics was the first to publish a NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET comic book, as a black and white magazine in 1989, Innovation should be given credit for the sophistication of their comic book as well as the fact that it fit very well inside of the continuity of the movies (even Wes Craven's NEW NIGHTMARE, which came later)!

It was during this era that most comic books shifted from four color newsprint format that traditionally typified most "comic books" since it's introduction as disposable entertainment, to a much higher quality product that was sold to mostly adult readers and collectors through a direct market of Comic Book Specialty Stores.

Thus, Innovation Comics was able the create a comic book that captured the same kind of moody, violent, over-the-top horror that could be appreciated by the grown up fans of the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET movies!

The artwork for the first few issues were fully painted in a wonderfully expressive style by TONY HARRIS, who would be best known for co-creating the new STARMAN (Jack Knight) with JAMES ROBINSON for DC COMICS, and is currently drawing BRIAN K VAUGHN'S excellent superhero-turned-politician comic book EX MACHINA.

The story itself fits very neatly between NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 5: THE DREAM CHILD and FREDDY'S DEAD: THE FINAL NIGHTMARE.  This series reunites a number of familiar characters for one last battle with Freddy and tying up the loose ends before Freddy's Dead.

Nancy Thompson (from the original NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: THE DREAM WARRIORS) has become Freddy's equal in the dream world, and with the help of Neil Gordon, she plans to end Freddy's reigning nightmare. But, what are Freddy's plans with the newly arrived Jacob Johnson (the former DREAM CHILD) and his mother Alice (THE DREAM MASTER)? How does Springwood's new serial killer tie into all of this?

Also of interest are the dream sequences that suggest Freddy was also Jack the Ripper.  Given the meta-fictional aspects of WES CRAVEN'S NEW NIGHTMARE, and Craven himself in the movie expressing how he feels like he was tapping into something older and more primal with the creation of Freddy, this aspect of the mythos is certainly intriguing.

This series sported some great painted covers.

The first issue contains a preview for the fully painted QUANTUM LEAP Comic Book series!
