XYZ COMICS #1 UNDERGROUND COMIX

BY THE LEGENDARY ROBERT CRUMB
Another study in self-loathing, cynical storytelling Robert Crumb’s XYZ Comics sees the groundbreaking cartoonist lampooning the foibles of Americans in the 1970s. Crumb, known for his often disturbing and misanthropic depictions of life in the 60s and 70s, and arguably best recognized for his creations Fritz the Cat and Mr. Natural, is considered by many to be the father of alternative underground comix. Laying the groundwork for such popular indie work as Peter Bagge’s Hate and Roberta Gregory’s Bitchy Bitch, in XYZ Comics, Crumb not only satirizes the culture that made him into an underground pop idol but also turns a sardonic eye on some of his most famous work as well. Mocking his celebrity status created by as such iconic work as his well known “Keep on Truckin’” cartoon, Crumb never shies away from turning a contemptuous introspective eye on himself.
