The Last of the Viking Heroes Summer Special features more stories of Michael Thibodeaux’s hard-fightin’, hard-lovin’ adventurers: Tomgar, Erik, Sven, and Jon. They’re equally ready to face a major threat (and live to brag about it) or to spend some quality time with half-naked young women in a mead-slingin’ tavern. Thibodeaux’s tales are lighthearted, entertaining Conan-esque fare, and the summer specials feature tributes to such artistic greats as Jack Kirby and Frank Frazetta, as well as an appearance by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird thought they were making a joke about the countless mutant and kung-fu heroes in comics. So what better than to name their improbable series, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”? Little did they know that their joke would soon develop a cult of devoted fans, eventually turning them into an international phenomenon.
