Garth Ennis is probably best known for his hard-hitting but historically accurate and empathetic War Stories, fictionalising the heroics of War without shying too far away from the immense destructive force of modern warfare.

British flight Lieutenant Ronald Page and Sergeant Thomas Stark are co-pilots on the “J For Jenny” bomber. Simply put, their job is to bomb the hell out of Germany. As they pass over homes near the munitions factories they destroy, Stark desperately fights the guilt he feels about the civilians killed on their raids. Page feels differently. His wife and children were killed by Nazi bombs, and to his mind, every German killed helps even the score. The absolute contempt between Page and Stark is the focus of the story. When Page has one last chance to annihilate a town full of German citizens, will Stark be able to stop him? The irony of the twist ending makes this one of the best of Ennis’s War Story
